8 Days Prague and Budapest Tour: History, Beer & Wine

This sample 8-day (7 nights) itinerary covers Prague and Budapest, two of the most beautiful cities in Central Europe. Prague is known as the Golden City and Budapest is called Paris on the Danube. That should give you a hint of the beautiful elegance and comfortable luxury you can look forward to in both destinations. You'll be taken care of by local guides every step of the way as you experience the unique atmosphere of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Adventure awaits in the heart of Europe! The services we provide as part of our comprehensive packages include accommodations, transfers and city tours. In addition to the tours included we can arrange a number of excursions based on your own interests. There is also an option to travel between cities by private car or van transfers at an extra cost. Our Destination Manager in the region will provide assistance before and during your travels. They will be available to you leading up to the trip to answer any questions and arrange local services. You will be provided with information on the best these destinations have to offer, including things to see and do, restaurants, entertainment and other insider tips. Upon arrival we will provide you with a local cell phone that you can use to contact our Destination Manager throughout your trip. In all of our destinations we offer a variety of accommodation options, including boutique-style hotels, charming B&Bs and spacious apartments ranging from a three to five-star level. From our first-hand experience we can ensure they are all clean, comfortable and centrally located. We generally discourage chain hotels but provide accommodations with unique features or an authentic feel.

Suggestion to explore on your own: Museums of All Kinds from Alchemy to Mucha
Prague’s got museums and galleries aplenty so there's more than enough to choose from. Our recommendations here all focus on something that's unique to Prague and the Czech Republic. In the center, the privately run Museum of Communism, curated by an American, tells the story of the five decades of totalitarian rule and its eventual demise. Around the corner the Mucha Museum is all about the famous Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha. Hidden away in Old Town is the Alchemist's Workshop celebrating the fact that Prague was the world center for alchemy back in the day. The National Technical Museum in the Letna neighborhood celebrates above all the achievements of Czech engineers, inventors and designers. Art lovers could head for the National Gallery nearby, with a focus on Czech fine artists. A little deeper into the Holesovice neighbourhood you'll find DOX Gallery, with a full program of temporary exhibitions by modern artists.

Day 3

Kutna Hora Private Day Trip

The variety of Kutna Hora's architectural monuments and its well-preserved town center reflects its ancient fame and wealth. During your walk you will visit the gothic cathedral of St. Barbara and the Italian Court. You will also visit one of the most interesting burial places in the world. This chapel is decorated by more than 40,000 human bones, including a bone chandelier and a bone crest of a noble family. Kutna Hora has been registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1995 and on this excursion you'll see why.

A little about Prague

“The Golden City,” “The City of 100 Spires,” “The Mother of Cities”... Prague has no shortage of nicknames, and they all pay homage to the city’s charm and beauty. Prague’s winding cobblestone streets, its gorgeous architecture and its atmospheric bridges are fabled, and with good reason: this is a city like no other. From exploring the history and modern culture on foot, to traveling farther afield to take in the picturesque countryside and fairytale villages, you’ll have an itinerary full of adventure and relaxation. This is a very walkable city surrounded by easy-to-reach destinations in the surrounding regions. Besides the city’s history, which is evident on every street, including the beautifully preserved former Jewish Quarter, a rich program awaits. There will be plenty of time to sample the famous Bohemian beer, as we can offer several delightful gastronomic experiences, including a romantic dinner cruise on the Vltava river, and a relaxing afternoon at an actual beer spa! Day-trip destinations include scenic castles, the perfect spa town, and the Renaissance village of Cesky Krumlov. Prague is a city of history that comes to life for every visitor. No matter what your interests, you’ll find yourself intrigued by the inviting magic of the Czech capital in the heart of Europe.

A little about Budapest

The Paris of Central Europe, Budapest is the Queen of the Danube, a sprawling, regal city split in two halves by the mighty river. The city’s two UNESCO-listed halves, ancient Buda and modern Pest both have their charms and are linked by numerous picturesque bridges. From the Buda Castle to the Danube Embankment and the sprawling Andrassy Avenue, with its impressive architecture, there is plenty to keep you busy here, exploring and discovering this atmospheric city. It’s a little too big to explore only on foot, but the Pest side of the city is well laid out with broad avenues of the Parisian system, so it’s hard to get lost, and there is also comprehensive public transport. Budapest has all the charm of Western Europe at a fraction of the price. Here you can taste excellent wines produced throughout the region, and even enjoy Michelin-star dining. We can offer you more than enough exciting activities in the city, from a visit to the incredible Parliament building to a boat cruise with dinner, or an exploration of Budapest’s communist past. The city also has a rich Jewish heritage, so you’ll find the perfect balance of history and modern culture here. Voted Best City in Europe in 2013 by Condé Nast Traveler readers and a regular in their top 3, Budapest really is a special city with activities to cater to every interest.

We have not regretted for a moment, we entered the Jay Way world.  Within minutes they had sent us an itinerary for our proposed trip and later gave us several selections for accommodations at various levels of comfort.  We saved ourselves hours of self inflicted searching, pondering, reserving and unnecessary risk. We were comforted greatly at the transition points, i.e., being met as we arrived at each location, having a city tour to orient us to each city, and then transport to either the train station or by shuttle to our next destination. We recommend Jay Way Travel without any reservation. The time, energy, and effort they saved us was worth every dollar of their fee, which by any accounts was very reasonable.

JayWay Travel put together an awesome vacation for our group that was customized to our specific wishes. However, the biggest debt of gratitude goes to Judit Holp, our Central European Destination Manager in Budapest, who worked directly with me to set up all our air travel and transfers, hotel accommodations, intercity limo and train travel, dinner reservations and tour bookings. Without her assistance, everything wouldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did, and we wouldn’t have been able to see as much as we did.

"We were so happy to have found JayWay during our research. We have traveled through other countries in Europe where we coordinated the logistics, but with little knowledge of Central Europe and the language and money differences we were uncomfortable going it alone on this trip. The idea of a group type tour was very unappealing so finding a tour company that would handle the logistics without having to travel with 40 other people was great. It allowed us to have the style of trip we wanted and relax and enjoy it without having to be concerned with the details. We learned so much from the local support personnel that assisted us and it really enriched the trip. Thank you!!!"

"We had an extraordinary experience. From our arrival, when we met Kinga, a fantastic representative for JayWay, to our being dropped off at the Prague airport, we had memorable experiences in three beautiful cities. The itineraries were clearly presented and well-thought out by someone who knew what s/he was doing. Our trip was a joy. Again, thank you for a great time!"

"Everyone at JayWay was very responsive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our trip was fabulous and exactly as I had hoped and pictured. JayWay provided the right mix of a planned tour without being on a tour! Our accommodations were fabulous, restaurant recommendations were good, the itinerary info was perfect. Thanks so much!"

Our trip involved 33 days total. Jayway arranged for all but our flights. Every aspect of our trip was well taken care of and wonderful. The guides, excursions and transfers were well arranged without exception. Every question before the trip was answered promptly and thoroughly. During the trip when a few issues arose, our contact Darja, was readily available and helpful. We had a wonderful time.

"JayWay made our first trip to Central Europe and the Adriatic a wonderful experience. From accommodations to transportation to restaurant recommendations, to personal guides, their arrangements and suggestions were outstanding. We'll certainly use JayWay again and will enthusiastically recommend them to our friends and family. On our last night in Dubrovnik, my husband, who's very particular and wasn't convinced that he even wanted to take this trip ('Croatia???') said: 'This was the perfect vacation. Best we've ever had.' Thank you JayWay!"

- Traveled to Prague, Trogir, Hvar, Korcula, Dubrovnik in July 2015 - rating:

"JayWay Travel was exactly what we needed in planning our vacation. Other travel agencies offered tours that included most of the places that we wanted to see, but we were not able to fit into their fixed time schedules and routes. JayWay offered us the flexibility that we needed. We had the secure feeling of being on an organized tour, and JayWay's scheduling allowed us plenty of free time to explore the cities as we liked."

"You exceeded our expectations on all fronts with professional, friendly and courteous service and the phone is a very good idea, nice to have that lifeline when needed. Great apartments everywhere we stayed. I loved having the freedom to move around but always having the transportation planned, the transfers saved so much time. Great from start to finish."

"JayWay took the worry out of our travel. The pre-trip arrangements were superb and all the guides and drivers were most friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. We loved the walking tours. The hotels were perfectly situated for access to the city centres. The additional excursions recommended were also great!"

"JayWay took a lot of hassle out of the trip and gave excellent guidance & suggestions in finalising the individual cities on our trip. This was clearly based on considerable experience with each of the countries. We particularly loved the transfer service at each location. It was most welcome when arriving somewhere tired and not knowing where to go! The local contacts also provided outstanding help and guidance on the road and the mobile phone was a great idea."

"The folks at JayWay are very friendly and knowledgeable. They offered us some great recommendations in terms of places to see and restaurants to eat at. The tour guides are excellent and provided us with a fascinating overview of the cities that we visited. The boutique hotels that we stayed at were very unique and nice, and they were all within close proximity of the city squares. Their expertise and assistance allowed us to travel with ease and experience Prague, Krakow and Budapest to the fullest extent. We enjoyed our trip immensely and would definitely recommend JayWay to anyone considering traveling to Central Europe!"

"Best traveling experience ever. Everyone was very helpful, we did not feel like tourists at all, never would have experienced everything we did without JayWay Travel. How wonderful it was that you helped me find my grandmother's village where she was born, and also finding a cousin of mine, and translated our conversation. It was a highlight seeing a relative of my grandfather, this man had pictures of my father as a young child in Czechoslovakia. Who knew that I would meet the grandson of my Grandfather's brother. This was priceless, and a cherished memory."
