10 Days Prague, Vienna and Budapest Tour with Private Transfers

This sample 10 day (9 nights) itinerary comprises 3 nights in each of Prague, Vienna & Budapest. A private city tour is the perfect way to get to know each of these destinations so these are a standard part of this itinerary, along with one of our most popular day trips or in-city activities on your second full day in each capital. We've included private transfers with sightseeing stops. The first is in Mikulov between Prague and Vienna, and between Budapest and Prague you will stop in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, where we have also included a guided tour of the city. Our Destination Manager in the region provides assistance before and during your travels. They will be available to you leading up to the trip to answer any questions and arrange local services. You will be provided with information on the best these destinations have to offer including things to see and do, restaurants, entertainment and other insider tips. Upon arrival we will provide you with a local cell phone that you can use to contact our Destination Manager throughout your trip. In all of our destinations we offer a variety of accommodation options including boutique style hotels, charming B&Bs and spacious apartments ranging from a three to five star level. From our first hand experience we can ensure they are all clean, comfortable and centrally located. We generally discourage chain hotels but provide accommodations with unique features or an authentic feel.

Since then a spa town has grown up around the various springs, one of which you can watch spouting high into the air. Called Carlsbad in German, the town has attracted the rich and famous for centuries. Your private driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Prague and take you to Karlovy Vary in about two hours. Once there you’re free to choose how you spend the day, whether it's visiting one of the luxury spas in the five-star hotels, strolling along the colonnades, taking the funicular to the Diana Lookout Tower high above the town or visiting the Becherovka distillery to learn about the city’s signature herbal liquor. The town is also famous for the Moser crystal factory and museum, a visit to which can be incorporated into your day.

Your private driver will pick you up at your accommodation and drive you to your centrally located accommodation in Vienna. We suggest making a day of it and seeing another side of the Czech Republic by making a stop along the way in Moravia, in picturesque Mikulov right in the heart of wine country. This romantic town nestling beneath a gorgeous chateau is renowned for its wines. If you time it right you'll be there for lunch and we'll make a reservation for you at one of our favorite eateries in the town, giving you the chance to try a drop of the locally produced wines. The vehicle used for your transfer will be a standard sedan, station wagon or minivan. We can arrange for an upgrade to a more luxurious class of vehicle for an extra fee.

A little about Prague

“The Golden City,” “The City of 100 Spires,” “The Mother of Cities”... Prague has no shortage of nicknames, and they all pay homage to the city’s charm and beauty. Prague’s winding cobblestone streets, its gorgeous architecture and its atmospheric bridges are fabled, and with good reason: this is a city like no other. From exploring the history and modern culture on foot, to traveling farther afield to take in the picturesque countryside and fairytale villages, you’ll have an itinerary full of adventure and relaxation. This is a very walkable city surrounded by easy-to-reach destinations in the surrounding regions. Besides the city’s history, which is evident on every street, including the beautifully preserved former Jewish Quarter, a rich program awaits. There will be plenty of time to sample the famous Bohemian beer, as we can offer several delightful gastronomic experiences, including a romantic dinner cruise on the Vltava river, and a relaxing afternoon at an actual beer spa! Day-trip destinations include scenic castles, the perfect spa town, and the Renaissance village of Cesky Krumlov. Prague is a city of history that comes to life for every visitor. No matter what your interests, you’ll find yourself intrigued by the inviting magic of the Czech capital in the heart of Europe.

Other sights include the beautiful Hofburg Imperial Palace. You’ll listen to stories about Vienna’s origins as a Roman village and the development of the opulent Habsburg Empire. Learn how both World Wars and the city’s important political positioning in Europe shaped Vienna into the amazing city it is today. To maximize your sightseeing you will switch to four wheels to see the grand buildings of the Ringstrasse by car as well as visit the Schonbrunn Palace.

Figimuller is a classic Viennese restaurant where the schnitzel was invented in 1904. Sacher Cafe is home to the world famous Sacher cake. Naschmarkt is a vast outdoor market where you’ll find everything from fresh fruit to cured meat. All three are in the center and are walkable from your accommodation.

UNESCO World Heritage scenery guarantees no shortage of great photo opportunities along the way, and with a fun guide at hand, this unique wine tasting bike tour prides itself on showing you the wonders of Wachau! Vienna

A little about Vienna

Vienna is a timeless city of high culture, grand cafes, breathtaking architecture and more, all set on the banks of the majestic Danube River. The moment you set foot in the city you’ll see why Vienna’s center is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Often regarded as the world capital of music, Vienna is the place where Beethoven and Mozart made history. Even today a visit to the opera or a classical music performance at one of the city’s sublime concert halls is an unforgettable experience. The center of Vienna, St. Stephen’s Square, is dominated by the impressive gothic cathedral of the same name. Inside you’ll find a rich collection of artistic treasures, and the view from the tower is well worth the climb, offering amazing views over the city. But the cathedral is only one of the most visible attractions in Vienna. You won’t want to miss the magnificent Schonbrunn Palace and the imperial Hofburg. Explore the city on foot, in a car, or by bike: the choice is yours. If you’d like to go farther afield you can even take a river cruise to nearby Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, or a bike trip to local wineries. But you don’t have to leave Vienna to have a wonderful time. Simply strolling through the pedestrian zones in the city center and stopping for a coffee and a slice of cake make for a truly enjoyable holiday.

3 Nights in Budapest

Day 1

Once in Budapest, your private driver will bring you directly to your pre-booked centrally located accommodation.

Day 2

See Budapest with an Expert Guide, Get Educated and Oriented
Your private guide will meet you at your accommodation, then take you on a three-hour walking (and metro) tour to show you the highlights of both the Buda and Pest sides of the city. You'll start by hopping on the metro to the Opera House, Heroes' Square and City Park at the far end of Andrassy Blvd. Then you'll return to the center, where St. Stephen’s Basilica awaits. From there you'll get a closer look at the Buda side of the city, where your guide will point out Gellert Hill, the Citadel and the Royal Palace before leading you up through the old cobblestone streets to Fisherman’s Bastion and St. Matthias Church, where your tour will conclude.

Budapest Private Walking Tour
Budapest Private Walking Tour
Duration : 3 hours
Activity level : Moderate

vacation package
Suggestion to explore on your own: Mix with the Locals
Is there anything more quintessentially Budapest than a visit to one of the legendary baths? With more hot springs than any other capital, the city lets you take your pick of various styles, from the old school Turkish Rudas Baths to the Art Nouveau Gellert Baths on the Buda side of the city, or even the Neo-Baroque Szechenyi Baths with a large outdoor pool in Pest’s City Park.

Included : Budapest Private Walking Tour

Day 3

Sample Hungarian Food and Wine with an Expert, or on Your Own
You'll start your tour in Budapest’s Great Market Hall. Over the next four hours of walking and tasting you will receive a thorough introduction to the cuisine (and wine) of Hungary. Led by food and wine professionals, this tour includes generous tastings along the way. You'll taste the fascinating history of the Central Market Hall (and get inside knowledge on what to taste and where to shop there). Then you'll tour the best small shops and cafes in the neighborhood. You will follow in the footsteps of Anthony Bourdain, with lunch in the same butcher's shop, before finishing the tour with a Hungarian wine tasting.

Gastro - Budapest Food & Wine Tour Experience
Gastro - Budapest Food & Wine Tour Experience
Duration : 4 hours
Activity level : Light
Included in your
vacation package
Suggestion to explore on your own: Go inside Budapest’s Signature Sights or Explore a Green Oasis in the City
Although a walking tour of the city will show you its highlights, there’s just not enough time to go inside all the buildings. Our favorites to explore are the Great Market Hall, the Parliament and the Opera House. The latter two can be visited on guided tours, available most days. If you’ve already taken in all of central Budapest’s sights, why not spend some time on the Danube, either on land or by boat. Margaret Island is often overlooked by travellers but is right in the middle of the city, just off Margaret Bridge. Consisting mostly of landscaped parks, it features the occasional medieval ruin too. There were several monasteries and convents here. The island is popular with locals as a place for recreation, with swimming pools, jogging paths, four-person bikes to rent and a fun singing fountain to watch from the many seats around it.

Included : Gastro - Budapest Food & Wine Tour Experience

Day 4

A driver will meet you at your accommodation to take you to the airport for your departing flight.
Included : Budapest Airport Transfer
Budapest

A little about Budapest

The Paris of Central Europe, Budapest is the Queen of the Danube, a sprawling, regal city split in two halves by the mighty river. The city’s two UNESCO-listed halves, ancient Buda and modern Pest both have their charms and are linked by numerous picturesque bridges. From the Buda Castle to the Danube Embankment and the sprawling Andrassy Avenue, with its impressive architecture, there is plenty to keep you busy here, exploring and discovering this atmospheric city. It’s a little too big to explore only on foot, but the Pest side of the city is well laid out with broad avenues of the Parisian system, so it’s hard to get lost, and there is also comprehensive public transport. Budapest has all the charm of Western Europe at a fraction of the price. Here you can taste excellent wines produced throughout the region, and even enjoy Michelin-star dining. We can offer you more than enough exciting activities in the city, from a visit to the incredible Parliament building to a boat cruise with dinner, or an exploration of Budapest’s communist past. The city also has a rich Jewish heritage, so you’ll find the perfect balance of history and modern culture here. Voted Best City in Europe in 2013 by Condé Nast Traveler readers and a regular in their top 3, Budapest really is a special city with activities to cater to every interest.

"Simply AMAZING! All accommodations were fantastic! All of our tour guides were excellent. I would like to note that Anita and Barbara, both guides in Budapest were AMAZING!  Norbert was our local representative and I cannot say enough good things about him. He was absolutely wonderful! We will 100% book again through JayWay. "

"Great staff to work with. Everything went perfectly, drivers on time, hotels were just what we were looking for with great locations. Guides were fantastic. Everything went smoothly and it was nice to talk to someone rather than just email. Our driver in Budapest was wonderful. He took us to the train and showed us where the platform was and how to read the board. He went above and beyond when he saw my husband was nervous about it and actually showed us our car and seats. That is such special service."

"We were so happy to have found JayWay during our research. We have traveled through other countries in Europe where we coordinated the logistics, but with little knowledge of Central Europe and the language and money differences we were uncomfortable going it alone on this trip. The idea of a group type tour was very unappealing so finding a tour company that would handle the logistics without having to travel with 40 other people was great. It allowed us to have the style of trip we wanted and relax and enjoy it without having to be concerned with the details. We learned so much from the local support personnel that assisted us and it really enriched the trip. Thank you!!!"

"We had an extraordinary experience. From our arrival, when we met Kinga, a fantastic representative for JayWay, to our being dropped off at the Prague airport, we had memorable experiences in three beautiful cities. The itineraries were clearly presented and well-thought out by someone who knew what s/he was doing. Our trip was a joy. Again, thank you for a great time!"

"Everyone at JayWay was very responsive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our trip was fabulous and exactly as I had hoped and pictured. JayWay provided the right mix of a planned tour without being on a tour! Our accommodations were fabulous, restaurant recommendations were good, the itinerary info was perfect. Thanks so much!"

Our trip involved 33 days total. Jayway arranged for all but our flights. Every aspect of our trip was well taken care of and wonderful. The guides, excursions and transfers were well arranged without exception. Every question before the trip was answered promptly and thoroughly. During the trip when a few issues arose, our contact Darja, was readily available and helpful. We had a wonderful time.

"JayWay Travel was exactly what we needed in planning our vacation. Other travel agencies offered tours that included most of the places that we wanted to see, but we were not able to fit into their fixed time schedules and routes. JayWay offered us the flexibility that we needed. We had the secure feeling of being on an organized tour, and JayWay's scheduling allowed us plenty of free time to explore the cities as we liked."

"JayWay took a lot of hassle out of the trip and gave excellent guidance & suggestions in finalising the individual cities on our trip. This was clearly based on considerable experience with each of the countries. We particularly loved the transfer service at each location. It was most welcome when arriving somewhere tired and not knowing where to go! The local contacts also provided outstanding help and guidance on the road and the mobile phone was a great idea."

How wonderful it was that you helped me find my grandmother's village where she was born, and also finding a cousin of mine, and translated our conversation. It was a highlight seeing a relative of my grandfather, this man had pictures of my father as a young child in Czechoslovakia. Who knew that I would meet the grandson of my Grandfather's brother. This was priceless, and a cherished memory."
