Exploring Krakow: Private City Walking Tour
Today you’ll be getting a feel for the story of the city with a private tour hosted by a local tour guide. This is the best way to discover little-known historical facts and anecdotes while wandering around the heart of Krakow. You'll start from the Jewish District (Kazimierz), with a walk up to 14th century Wawel Castle and stroll along Kanonicza and Grodzka Streets in order to reach Collegium Maius (Great College). The tour continues to the Main Market Square with visiting the Cloth Hall (perfect to buy souvernirs) and St. Mary's Basilica.

Suggestion to explore on your own: Quirky Quarter: Exploring Kazimierz
Kazimierz is Krakow’s most unique neighborhood, combining its heritage as the Jewish Quarter with a more recent reinvention as the city’s bohemian headquarters. The historical side of Kazimierz includes five synagogues and the New Jewish Cemetery. You should also plan to explore the neighborhood’s hipper enclaves, especially the cafes and bars around the square called Plac Nowy. Excellent restaurants abound, including the kosher restaurant Olive Tree, the French bistro Zazie and the delicious restaurant Szara Kazimierz.

Included : Krakow Private Walking Tour

Day 3

Optional: Dark History: An Excursion to Auschwitz
A visit to Krakow isn’t truly complete without an excursion to the Auschwitz concentration camp. 70 kilometers from Krakow, the camp has been turned into a monument and museum, testifying to the atrocities that took place here. You will be picked up at your hotel and driven to Auschwitz, where you’ll join a 3-hour tour of the camp and the Auschwitz Memorial Museum led by one of the museum's expert guides. Onboard the bus, you can watch historical documentaries to give you more insight into these events.

One of the day trips from Krakow we recommend most is the Wieliczka Salt Mines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site just outside the city. You’ll be picked up at your hotel and driven by bus to the salt mines, where you’ll get a fascinating glimpse into history. This amazing 800-year-old mine is full of monuments, carvings and altar pieces. You’ll explore underground with an experienced guide with a stop at the souvenir shop.

You'll be heading north to Warsaw today. There are frequent trains between Krakow and Warsaw, one every two hours or so. We will provide train tickets with seat reservations based on your preferred departure time and arrange for a transfer from your accommodation to the train station. The journey takes about 3 hours. If you'd like to take your time while enjoying more privacy, we can also organize a personal transfer with stops along the way in Lodz or Czestochowa. It makes the journey longer but adds a visit to your choice of these remarkable destinations.

Suggestion to explore on your own: WWII History: Warsaw Uprising Museum
The Warsaw Uprising against the Nazis is one of the most volatile moments in Polish World War II history. It’s such a significant event that it has its own museum, which we recommend exploring today. Tickets are 18 PLN and the museum is easily accessible by public transportation. Here you’ll find an incredibly rich collection of exhibits covering every aspect of the uprising, which took place in 1944.

Included : Warsaw Private City Tour

Day 3

Suggestion to explore on your own: Explore Warsaw's Jewish Heritage
Warsaw has a rich Jewish history, and we highly recommend exploring it while you're visiting the city. The most significant historical monument to local Jewish culture is the Warsaw Ghetto. On Prozna Street you'll find the ghetto's surviving tenements covered in an artistic memorial to the victims of Nazism. There are also numerous statues, including the Monument to Ghetto Heroes, and the Monument to Mila 18, which was the headquarters of the ghetto's resistance fighters. The Nozyk Synagogue was once one of 400 synagogues in the city. Today it is the only one that survived World War II. It's certainly worth visiting, if only to marvel at the architecture and the interior. The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews is also a must-see. The museum's postmodern exterior is striking in itself, but inside you'll find truly breathtaking exhibitions that reveal the rich history of Jewish life in Warsaw.

Day 4

Today you're saying 'do widzenia' to Warsaw as you're off to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. We'll arrange for a driver to take you to the airport in plenty of time for your departing flight. We've included economy one-way tickets to Vilnius on a short direct flight in your package price.

Here you'll find a gorgeous lake front, as well as an impressive national park and a Gothic castle. Your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the Trakai and its many attractions, then you'll have the choice of adding a boat tour of the lake for an additional fee or just crossing the bridges to the island where the castle is located. History will come alive for you here, as your guide fills you in on all the incredible events that have taken place in the castle and the surrounding region, stretching back centuries.
