Capri

Travel and LeisureFodorsUSA TodayNew York TimesNational GeographicWashington PostVogue
The island of Capri, located in the Bay of Naples, draws millions of visitors a year, many staying for just a few hours to visit the famous grottos. Arriving at the workaday port area is just the first part of your journey. A ride in one of the island's signature convertible taxis will take you closer to your hotel, either in the town of Capri on top of one of the island's two hills, or Anacapri on the other.
An idyllic Italian island.
The rest of the journey will involve some walking or using a porter service with a smaller vehicle. The narrow lanes and steps of the town aren't car-friendly! The main reasons to stay on Capri are the views from your hotel room balcony or terrace and to enjoy the atmosphere in the evening after the crowds have left, which is what makes Capri a honeymooners' favorite.

Frequently Asked Questions about travel to Capri

What are prices like in Capri?

Capri tends to be on the more expensive side, given its status as a luxury destination. Dining out usually costs between €25 and €50 per person, depending on the restaurant and its location, with upscale venues charging more. Private tours and exclusive experiences can also be quite costly. Overall, while Capri is pricier than other parts of Italy, it offers a variety of options to suit different budgets.

How can I get around Capri?

The best way to get around Capri is by foot, as the island is small and many of its attractions are within walking distance. The narrow streets and charming alleys are best explored on foot. For longer distances, you can take a bus or use a taxi, though these can be limited during peak seasons. Additionally, the island has a funicular that connects the Marina Grande to the town of Capri. If you want to explore the coastline or nearby islands, you can take a boat, with frequent services around the island offering a scenic way to travel.

How long should I stay in Capri?

We recommend staying at least two nights in Capri to fully experience its stunning nature, beaches, and grottos, as well as enjoy a boat trip around the island.

What options does Capri have for dietary restrictions?

Capri offers a variety of options for those with dietary restrictions. Many restaurants cater to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets, offering traditional Mediterranean dishes with alternatives to accommodate these needs. You’ll also find restaurants that specialize in fresh, local ingredients, which can often be adapted to suit various dietary preferences. It’s always a good idea to inform the staff about your specific dietary restrictions, as most places are quite accommodating and willing to make adjustments to their menu.
