Tremezzina feels like a fragrant bouquet of fairytale-like villages in the heart of Lake Como
A former agricultural superpower thanks to its position and excellent climate, Tremezzina is now one of the quaintest places to visit on Lake Como. This dreamlike piece of land on the western shore of Lake Como is the result of the recent merger of four separate villages: Tremezzo, Lenno, Ossuccio, and Mezzegra. No matter which of those picturesque hamlets you choose for your overnight stay in Tremezzina, it's easy to explore all of them in just a matter of hours.
Route for Tremezzina tour
Tremezzina is where Lake Como's two prettiest villas are located. Villa Balbianello in Lenno is a spectacular complex that comprises terraced gardens, splendid residential buildings, and a portico with breathtaking views of Lake Como. No wonder this villa is often used as the setting for international film productions. In Tremezzo, Villa Carlotta with its own pier is one of the most famous attractions on Lake Como. The lesser-known village of Ossuccio boasts jaw-dropping views of Isola Comacina, Lake Como's only island. All in all, Tremezzina isn't just a sight for sore eyes, it's also a magnificent area with loads to visit and explore.

Things to do in Tremezzina

Tremezzina comprises four utterly picturesque villages that adorn the shores of Lake Como: Tremezzo, Lenno, Ossuccio, and Mezzegra. Tremezzo boasts the beautiful Villa Carlotta, which has a wonderful botanical garden and art collection. In Lenno, you can visit the spectacular Villa del Balbianello. It’s located on the tip of a small wooded peninsula on the western shore of the southwest branch of Lake Como. Built for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini in 1787 on the site of a Franciscan monastery, the villa is famous for its elaborate terraced gardens. If you like UNESCO World Heritage Sites, you’re in luck because Ossuccio has the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, a religious sanctuary perched high atop a cliff. There are fourteen chapels there, built in baroque style between 1635 and 1710. At the summit, there is a sanctuary that dates back to 1532. It's impressive, to say the least, and will add another dimension to your holiday on Lake Como. While in Ossuccio, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of Isola Comacina, the lake's sole island. Here you can visit the Basilica of St. Eufemia, or enjoy a true Italian espresso at the island's restaurant. We especially recommend a visit on the day of the Saint John Festival on June 24th. There are fireworks over Lake Como and mass is celebrated among the ruins of St. Eufemia. Beyond Tremezzina, we can arrange private day trips to other Lake Como locations, Lake Maggiore, Milan, and even Lugano in Switzerland. Speaking of Switzerland, from Tremezzina, it's easy to plan a unique train ride across the Alps, an experience on the famous Bernina Express you don't want to miss.
