Active travelers and families – heads up! A balanced dynamic way to explore the Baltic states' most significant natural highlights is trending now. Handpicked by our local experts, the itinerary includes the Baltic capitals, Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn fused with smaller destinations like Klaipeda and Cesis plus fascinating stops en route. To remain flexible and relaxed, you will have door-to-door private transfers between the cities. This well-paced itinerary is incomplete without city walking tours in each destination on the first and outstanding green programs on the second or the only day you spend there. Thanks to the generally flat nature of the Baltic territory, this active itinerary won't exhaust you when pedaling on a bike tour, kayaking on lakes and rivers, or exploring a bog in bog-shoes!
Accommodations, one excursion each day, private transfers are all included in this comprehensive package. The stops between the cities are designed in line with the primary mission of this trip, which is to stay green, stay active!
In addition to the tours included we can arrange a number of excursions based on your own interests. All of our tours are custom, and this is just a sample meant to give an idea of what our trips are like, and the opportunities our destinations provide.
One of our team members in the region will be available to you leading up to and during your trip to answer any questions and arrange additional local services. You will receive access to your Guest Page, with its information on the best these destinations have to offer, including things to see and do, and other inside tips from restaurant recommendations to tipping advice. Upon your arrival, we will provide you with a local SIM that you can use to reach your local JayWay contact throughout your trip. In all of our destinations, we offer a variety of memorable 3-5 star accommodation options, including boutique hotels, charming B&Bs, and spacious apartments. With our first-hand experience, we can ensure they are all clean, comfortable, and centrally located, with local ambience.
3 Nights in Vilnius
3 Nights in Vilnius

3 Nights in Vilnius
With one of the oldest surviving Old Town neighborhoods in Europe, as well as a collection of classic architecture from Baroque to Gothic and everything in between, Vilnius is sure to astound you. Walking around the city and marveling at the sites is a pleasure in itself, but there’s much more to do here because Vilnius is also a vibrant cultural epicenter, with concerts and art exhibitions happening regularly. There are also numerous outdoor activities and day trips to enjoy while you stay in the city. It might surprise you, but hot air balloons are a popular pastime in and around Vilnius, and the city is one of the few in Europe that allows hot air balloons to float directly over the city, so you’re guaranteed a spectacular view whether you opt for a flight over the city or nearby Trakai. There’s also a rich Jewish heritage to explore here, including the former synagogue and the larger and smaller ghetto. We’d also recommend delving into the darker areas of the city’s past and exploring the communist era and the history of the KGB in Vilnius at the KGB Museum. Don’t miss Uzupis, a bohemian neighborhood of galleries, restaurants, and cafes that doubles as a tongue-in-cheek sovereign state, complete with its own charming constitution, three-boat navy, and flags (one per season).

Day 1
Day 1 - Arrival in Vilnius
A driver will be waiting to meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation in the center of Vilnius.
Outdoor Art
Nature lovers might want to trade the city's charms for a day in the great outdoors, and if so we've got the perfect suggestion. Just outside of Vilnius, Europos Parkas combines a lush park with an outdoor art gallery in the geographic center of the European continent, as declared by the French National Geographic Institute in 1989. Founded in 1991 by Lithuanian sculptor Gintaras Karosas, the sculpture exhibition is spread over 55 hectares of pristine parkland dotted with natural springs, woodlands, grasslands, and hills. It's beautiful in any season. We'd recommend taking one of the inexpensive local taxis to get there.

Day 2
Day 2 - Your First Full Day in Vilnius

Discover the Best of Vilnius
Today you’ll be getting in touch with the real Vilnius, with help from an expert local guide. Your guide will show you the ins and outs of the city, regaling you with stories from the past and present. You’ll learn more about Vilnius’ Jewish, Polish, Russian and Lithuanian heritage while discovering the city’s most impressive sites, including Old Town, St. Stanislovas and Vladislovas Cathedral, Vilnius University, the Presidential Palace and more. Your guide will pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation, or can suggest areas for further exploration after your tour concludes.
See Lithuania from Above!
One of a handful of European cities that allow hot-air ballooning, at some of the world's lowest prices, set aside a morning or afternoon to get the best possible views of the city. The only better way to cross this item off your bucket list is to head outside the city to nearby Trakai. Here you'll have grand views of the most scenic castle in the Baltics, a brick beauty sitting atop its own island in a long archipelago.

Trakai Group Hot Air Balloon Flight
This is a unique excursion that's both beautiful and adventurous. There's nothing like hot air ballooning at sunrise or sunset when the light is just magical and the Lithuanian countryside reveals itself. We went hot air ballooning in May 2015 as part of the #JayWayBaltics blogger trip and made a short video of the experience. Because of the variability of weather conditions and the need for filling spaces in the balloon, you will need to be flexible in terms of the time and day for this activity.

Vilnius Group Hot Air Balloon Flight
This is a unique excursion that's both beautiful and adventurous. There's nothing like hot air ballooning at sunrise or sunset, when the light is just magical and the Lithuanian capital reveals itself. Vilnius is one of few cities in the EU that allows hot air balloons to soar directly above it. A good geographic location and friendly flight controllers at the nearby airport allows rides over the city as often as the weather permits. There are several main balloon take-off sites in Vilnius. We always choose the site that best allows flights over Vilnius' Old Town, according to the wind direction. Occasionally, flights may be postponed, or moved to nearby Trakai, because of weather conditions.
Day 3
Day 3 - Your Second Full Day in Vilnius
Hike and Taste Your Way Through the Dzukija or Neris River Parks
As Lithuania is nearly 40% forested, hiking off the beaten path is quite easy, even close to Vilnius. Escape the crowds by taking one of our private tours to the country's pristine national parks. Whether visiting the dunes and villages of Dzukija, or the Neris River's banks, you'll delve into Lithuania's history, and taste traditional dishes prepared with local ingredients.

Dzūkija National Park Private Adventure
Discover the beautiful nature and carefully preserved history of Lithuania's oldest national park. Ancient wooden villages, picturesque rivers, birdwatching vistas, and interesting stories await! This tour ends with a tasting of the region's traditional, authentic dishes.

Neris River Regional Park Private Adventure
This tour is most suitable for those who don‘t want to walk too much, but still want to see and get to know as much as possible about Lithuania's nature and its ancient culture. You will visit one of the country's most magnificent preserves and will get acquainted with its facts and myths. At the end of the tour, you'll visit a rural home to taste seasonal historical dishes, meals with herbs picked in meadows, and learn a few secrets for wild foraging. Expect pleasant surprises along the way!
Day 4
Day 4 - Traveling to Klaipeda by Private Transfer
A private driver will pick you up today for your trip to Klaipeda. Along the way, you'll stop at the Hill of Crosses, a UNESCO-listed pilgrimage site. Next up is Žemaitija National Park, where you can hike, bike, or rent boats, water bikes, or sailboats. This seven-hour transfer does not include a guide. The vehicle used for your transfer will be a standard sedan, station wagon or minivan. We can arrange for an upgrade to a more luxurious class of vehicle for an extra fee.

2 Nights in Klaipeda
2 Nights in Klaipeda

2 Nights in Klaipeda
Is an atmospheric port city that features a variety of beautiful architecture that attests to its history as a meeting place for various cultures. Here you’ll see evidence of historic influence from Prussia, and also countries farther east. The city wasn’t incorporated into Lithuania until 1945, so its past is as rich and varied as it is long. Klaipeda’s Old Town is particularly interesting, with picturesque Germanic architecture known as Fachwerk, or half-timbered. But it isn’t all past history here. Close to Old Town you’ll also find numerous bars, restaurants and cafes to enjoy, as well as a ferris wheel that will afford you lovely views over the Baltic and the urban landscape. You’ll definitely want to sample some of the local seafood. It doesn’t get any fresher! After exploring the city on foot, either on your own or with the help of a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll want to go farther afield. Hop aboard a ferry to the Curonian Spit, a sand dune spit that features incredible beaches. Here you can enjoy the natural landscape as well as get a taste of local history, as the Nobel-Prize-winning German writer Thomas Mann had his summer home here, which is now a venerable museum. Klaipeda is a unique destination with an atmospheric charm you’ll love exploring at your own pace.

Day 4
Day 4 - Arrival in Klaipeda
Your driver will bring your directly to your accommodation in the centre of Klaipeda.
Seek Out Statues
Upon your arrival in Klaipeda, we suggest walking around the Old Town's narrow streets and delving into its outstanding German architecture. You can even make a game of finding the small statues that have been appearing in the center since 2006. These playful statues include a bag of money, a canine "Guardian of the Old Town", a small mouse that supposedly makes wishes come true and a dragon climbing a building wall. Finish your day with a lovely walk along the Dane River and sip a drink and eat dinner in its numerous restaurants.
Day 5
Day 5 - Your First Full Day in Klaipeda

Cycle The Curonian Spit Private Tour
The Curonian Spit is an absolute must-see when you're in Klaipeda. Explore this UNESCO-listed national park from atop a bike, with the help of a guide. With your trekking bike or e-bike, you'll cover up to 60 kilometers, with stops en route at the Hill of Witches, Amber Gallery, and Europe's largest san dunes, plus a swimming opportunity or two!
Day 6
Day 6 - Traveling to Riga by Private Transfer
Today you'll trade Klaipeda for Riga, visiting Kuldiga and the Riežupe Sand Caves en route. In cute Kuldiga you can visit Europe's widest waterfall, Venta Rapid. Based on your preferred departure time, a driver will pick you up at your accommodation in Riga and your journey to Klaipeda can start. Please keep in mind this transfer does not include a guide. The journey, including stops, takes about eight hours. The vehicle used for your transfer will be a standard sedan, station wagon or minivan. We can arrange for an upgrade to a more luxurious vehicle for an extra fee.

3 Nights in Riga

3 Nights in Riga
Riga's story is one of resurrection. After being damaged by fighting in World War II, the city has returned to beautiful prominence after two decades of independence. Riga really has come a long way, earning UNESCO World Heritage status and being named the European Capital of Culture for 2014. This is a lovely city that takes art and culture seriously, with a packed classical music calendar and events held nightly. You’ll find plenty to enjoy in this Baltic capital. Exploring the city, you’ll have the largest market and bazaar in Europe on-hand, as well as the largest collection of Art Nouveau architecture in the world. You could spend days wandering around admiring these beautiful buildings. But there’s more to do. The city is rich in museums, galleries and concert halls, so your cultural calendar will be full during your stay. And the nightlife is excellent too, with fine restaurants, boutique bars and cute cafes. Rundale and Sigulda are both gorgeous castles and palaces reachable for a day trip.

Riga From On High
What better way to start your visit to a new city than admiring the view from above? From St. Peter's Church in the old town, the Stalinist Latvian Academy of Sciences, mountainous National Library (also known as the Mountain of Light), or the Riga Radio and TV Tower (the tallest structure in the EU), extraordinary views of Riga and even the sea are easy to find. If you'd like to accompany great views with excellent drinks, we can recommend the best rooftop bar in the city so you can kick back with cocktails.

Day 7
Day 7 - Your First Full Day in Riga

Introducing Riga
Today you’ll be exploring the beautiful city of Riga and its UNESCO-listed Old Town. Historically an important trading port on the Baltic Sea, Riga had a strategic advantage for invaders, which resulted in periods of Polish, German, Swedish and Soviet rule all leaving their mark. You’ll walk through the winding streets of the Old Town to take in the sublime architecture as your guide makes the past come alive for you with stories. Your guide will meet you at your accommodation for this 2-hour tour, and will bring you back to your accommodation, or suggest places for further exploration.

Riga Canal Boat Group Tour
Back in the old days, before the Daugava rider was bridged, small boats used to transport locals across the river, and Riga's smaller waterways. The larger boats made up the "river tramway," while the smaller ones were "river taxis." Step aboard one of these historic vessels, and see boulevards, parks, squares, fountains, bridges, markets, and the old harbor as you cruise the canal that once formed the city's moat. For the tour's climax, you'll head down the river, taking in majestic panoramas of Old Riga’s spires and the modern and Soviet buildings of the left bank.
Day 8
Day 8 - Your Second Full Day in Riga

Funky Bike Private Tour
This tour offers a relaxing but eye-opening ride around Riga, giving you an overview of the city from a historical and cultural viewpoint. It’s also a great way to have fun and see the sights of Riga over the handlebars of a bike. You won’t be bombarded with historical facts and dates, but you will learn the history of the city as you ride through the suburban streets and listen to interesting tales. You'll escape the touristy areas and experience some of the more unique parts of the city.

Rundale Palace Private Day Trip
One of Latvia’s hidden gems is the Baroque Rundale Palace. This is one of the most stunning buildings in the Baltic States, and makes a fantastic day trip from Riga. Your guide will drive you to the palace, where you'll have plenty of time to explore the palace and its beautiful gardens. On the way back, you'll have the opportunity to stop in one of the nearby towns. The tour will take around six hours in total, so an early start is recommended. For more info on Rundale, read our blog post.
Day 9
Day 9 - Traveling to Cesis by Private Transfer
The most relaxed way to get to Cesis is with our private transfer option. Our driver will pick you up from your accommodations based on the time of your choosing and deliver you to your accommodations in Cesis, about an hour and a half later. This is a direct transfer, but for an additional fee, you can make stops along the way and see more of Gauja National Park. The vehicle used for your transfer will be a standard sedan, station wagon or minivan. We can arrange for an upgrade to a more luxurious class vehicle for an extra fee.
1 Night in Cesis
1 Night in Cesis

1 Night in Cesis
Cute Cesis' most obvious feature is its eponymous castle, constructed by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword, crusaders wanting to build a castle in their new homeland, in the early 13th century. The castle attained its new half-ruined appearance more than 350 years later, when the poor garrison blew themselves up rather than surrender to Ivan the Terrible. A year later, Ivan himself lost a battle for the town, which had been retaken by a desperate alliance of all of his enemies, and which became a turning point against him. Indeed, until recently, the city was mostly known for the battles that have swirled around it. Latvians and Estonians both know the town for the battle fought over it in 1919 during the Latvian War of Independence, when an allied German army changed its mind and tried to seize Latvia for itself (Estonians say they won the battle with Latvian help, and Latvians insist they won with Estonian help). In recent years, the town has transformed into a hip treasure, drawing artists and environmentalists, who are working to turn the town into an example of what Latvia can be.

Day 10
Day 10 - Traveling to Tallinn by Private Transfer
Today you're trading Latvia for Estonia, heading up to Tallinn with a stop at Sooma National Park. A driver will pick you up at your accommodations, and bring you to your accommodations, with a stop en route. At Sooma's visitors center, you can enjoy films and exhibitions on the park's nature, then follow the Beaver Trail, a boardwalk over the park's otherworldly bogs. Alternatively, we can book guided tours, bog-shoe hiking, or canoeing in advance. This 7-8 hour tour does not include a guide. The vehicle used for your transfer will be a standard sedan, station wagon or minivan. We can arrange for an upgrade to a more luxurious class of vehicle for an extra fee.

3 Nights in Tallinn
3 Nights in Tallinn

3 Nights in Tallinn
A visit to Tallinn, the oldest capital city in Northern Europe, is a trip back in time. The cobblestone streets, UNESCO-listed medieval walls, and stunning church spires give it an Old World charm you’ll love exploring. But there are all the modern amenities here too, and today Tallinn is a truly unique destination with the best of the old and the new. You’ll also see influences of both the east and west in the architecture and cuisine, as Estonia is a short ferry ride from Helsinki. The restaurants, quaint cafes and chic boutiques are places you’ll love to linger, while the long coastline is ideal for strolling. There are so many different ways to see the city, because Tallinn is so rich in history. See how beer influenced local history, or explore the reminders of life under the Soviet regime. Take a walking tour of the beautiful Old Town, or a driving tour to see more of the city. There are distinct neighborhoods here and each one feels distinct. Tallinn is very tech-savvy, so the business district is always modern and bustling. The bohemian Kalamaja neighborhood is a great place to have a drink or a bite to eat. The picturesque Lahemaa National Park is one of the best day trips from Tallinn, and you’ll have fun wandering through nature here before returning to the city to find more of its charms.

Bog-shoe Hiking Private Tour
For something a bit more unusual, walk across one of Estonia's largest bogs with special bog-shoes (otherwise, you would sink right in!) Bogs are very dear to Estonians, and have always been part of its culture, so a visit to Estonia is incomplete without a bog walk. Visiting an Estonian bog is a strangely unworldly experience, with their calm pools of black (but drinkable!) water, stunted trees, and endless berry bushes. With the help of equipment akin to snowshoes, you'll visit otherwise inaccessible places. This tour will take you beyond the boardwalks and observation towers to normally inaccessible areas, home to more wildlife. Have an unforgettable adventure in Estonia and come to a bog-shoe hike in the picturesque Kõnnu Suursoo, less than an hour east of Tallinn. This tour is available year-round, as the bog has a different face to show every season.

Outdoor Adventures: Rivers, Adventure Parks, and Bike Tours
There are numerous outdoor adventures awaiting you in Tallinn and the surrounding areas. On the Pirita River, you can rent boats and kayaks, which makes for a perfect excursion. The adventure parks in Nomme and Pirita allow you to enjoy some high-flying action on wire courses strung way up in the trees. For something more unusual, take a cab or bus to the TV tower, where you can walk along the ledge that sticks out from the tower 600 feet up, while safely harnessed to the tower. From here, you can get the best views, and when conditions are right, get a glimpse of Finland! There’s also a good mix of activities for the whole family that involve staying closer to the ground. If that doesn't sound like something for you rent a bike or join one of our bike tours to get out of the Old Town and explore local lives.

It was so relaxing to know that we were being taken care of, while still being so personal and ""on our own"" instead of with a big group. The worst part was when we were around groups of other Americans that were so demanding and unaware that they were the strangers there.
