Maria
Greece Destination Expert & Athens City Host

With studies in Public Relations & Communication and a Master’s degree in Tourism Management, it’s no wonder that Maria would seek a career in the travel industry. She is experienced in travel design and hotel management, while she’s also worked as a marketing specialist for museums and exhibitions. When traveling in Greece and abroad, Maria is always after the most authentic local experiences, and one of her passions is to travel and meet new people. There’s nothing that excites her more than to share her knowledge about Greece and promote her beloved country as the top cultural destination that it undoubtedly is. This is why Maria is an excellent fit for JayWay.

Why do you think it's important to travel?

After your first trip abroad or even after the first time you leave your hometown, you begin to see that your way of living is not the only way to live. This, in turn, helps open up your worldview, feel more compassion for others, and cultivate new ideas. The more you travel, the more you realize how big the world is and how much it has to offer. You start to focus on what matters and stop being disappointed by little failures here and there. That translates into happiness.

What destination is at the top of your must-visit list?

New Orleans. Having a passion for jazz music, I've dreamed of it for most of my life.

Mountains or beaches? Why?

Oh, I could never choose. Mountains are to be climbed whereas the sea has to be sailed. Both take you into amazing journeys and offer you relaxation. I would like to visit as many beaches and do as many treks as possible to fill the wanderlust of my soul.

Planes, trains, or automobiles? How do you like to travel and why?

Train travel is by far my favorite way to travel. Trains just make my soul happy. So many people, so many different stories, breathtaking scenery, and time for self-reflection. Somehow, when I'm traveling by train, it feels like time is slowing down and I can fully enjoy the moment.

What were your reasons for choosing to work in travel? And what value do you see in it?

I think that growing up in my family's hotel gave me a serious form of wanderlust. I've been listening, talking, and dreaming about travels since I have memories. After taking a solo backpacking trip to Europe, visiting 15 countries and more than 40 cities, I knew I wanted to turn my passion into a career and share it with the world.
