Best known for the incredible 11th century Bayeux Tapestry, Bayeux is a beautifully preserved medieval town full of history.
Located four miles from the coast of the English Channel, Bayeux is the home of the Bayeux Tapestry, a 70-meter long embroidery that depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England. The Bayeux Tapestry forms part of humanity's Documentary Heritage according to UNESCO. Bayeux is also known as the first city that the allied forces liberated during the Battle of Normandy in June 1944. It is home to the largest British cemetery in France dating from the Second World War.
