There’s a rich selection of live performances for music lovers here, as concerts are performed daily, and in July and August the Dubrovnik Summer Festival of music, theatre and dance brings incredible performers from around the world. The nightlife is also exciting, with restaurants, cafes and bars that will keep you socializing until dawn. You’ll be staying in beautiful accommodation within short walking distance to all the major sites, so you’ll be able to sample a little of everything. Today you’ll be exploring the elegant main streets and picturesque paths of Dubrovnik, with your own personal guide. This truly is one of the most beautiful medieval cities on the Adriatic. A walking tour of Old Town will take you to its elegant main street and most of its most important sights: The Franciscan Monastery, Onofrio’s Fountains, Sponza Palace, Orlando’s Column, the City Bell Tower, the Church of St. Blaise (the city’s patron saint), the Cathedral, and the Rector’s Palace, the seat of the former Republic. This is the perfect way to get oriented in the Old Town, and will give you the best insight into the rich history of Dubrovnik. You’ll learn what there is to see and do in Dubrovnik and how to get around.

Duration : 1 hour 30 minutes

After Your Tour: City Walls, Cable Car and Lokrum Island

Suggestion to explore on your own

As well as taking a short walking tour of Dubrovnik's old town with a private guide, which will tell you all about the city's history and get you oriented, there are a few other must-dos when in this breathtaking city and all involve getting a different perspective on the magnificent walled Old Town.

Continue your day in Dubrovnik after the tour with a ride on the cable car up Mount Srd' to take in the views. You'll find the bottom station of the cable car by exiting the city through the Buža Gate. Walking the circumference of the ancient city walls themselves is a way to get another view of the town. It's a bit of a climb to the top of the Minceta Tower, but highly recommended.

If you also want to see Dubrovnik from afar, then take a boat trip to Lokrum Island, an oasis of nature and tranquility just ten minutes from the Old Town harbor. This island has peacocks and monastery ruins hidden among its pine, cypress, and olive trees. You will also find a botanical garden here.

Looking for a unique dining experience in Dubrovnik? Dubrovnik's got some good (and some unfortunately not-so-good) restaurants but the best meal you can possibly have in town isn't at a restaurant. We'll secure you a spot for a Dalmatian dinner experience with Marija, an expert home cook whose cooking and food knowledge was recognized by the Wall Street Journal and National Geographic. Indulge in an enchanted evening of learning about real Dubrovnik and Dalmatian cuisine. Marija will prepare a multi-course meal with a local highlight, peka - a traditional style of cooking usually translated as "under the bell" and accompanied with great local wines. Our marketing director, a gourmand, described this as the best meal he's ever eaten in Croatia. Find out why!

Day 3

Day 3 - Your Second Full Day in Dubrovnik

Visit a Neighboring Country on a Private Tour

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

Dubrovnik is near where three countries meet, so why not experience an entirely new country? We have two memorable suggestions: Mostar in Bosnia, or the coast of Montenegro, including Kotor. As border crossings can be overcrowded during peak season, we recommend other tours from mid-June to mid-September.

Two hours from Dubrovnik, Mostar is famous for the arch bridge connecting the city's two halves. Although the center of this white stone bridge rises 70 feet above an emerald river, a diving competition is held in late July, and locals dive from the bridge year-round. The bridge and its neighborhood are UNESCO-listed. To better understand Ottoman life, we recommend exploring Mostar's bazaars, churches, and mosques. Although there is a beach under the bridge, we recommend taking a dip below the spectacular Kravice Falls on the way back. One of the region’s largest waterfalls, Kravice is the equal of anything in Croatia, without the crowds.

Explore the Bay of Kotor, Europe’s southernmost fjord. Located less than an hour south of Dubrovnik, Montenegro’s exceptional beauty is on display everywhere, alongside its deep history and culture. The first stop is Kotor, a UNESCO-listed town encircled by Venetian walls, and tucked in at the end of a rugged bay. The tour then continues to Our Lady of the Rocks, a shrine atop an island created over the centuries one rock at a time by devout fishermen thankful to have returned home with another day's catch.

Mostar Private Tour

One of the real virtues of traveling to Croatia is its proximity to so many important sites in neighboring countries. High on the list for anyone interested in the history of the Balkans is magical Mostar. This city lets you experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the ancient Ottoman Empire while still being in a European city. As you walk through the fascinating Old Town, Old Bazaar, the Turkish House and the many stunning mosques you will understand what makes Mostar so unforgettable. This tour includes an expert guide in Mostar and private transportation to and from your accommodations.

The Best the Sea Can Offer

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

Why not spend a day exploring some of the finer things in Croatian life, like wine, seafood and boats? Oyster fans should undoubtedly head for Peljesac, renowned for having the best oysters in Croatia. There you'll find gorgeous scenery and blue bays, and taste excellent wine from Croatia’s most famous wine region. You’ll stop at two wineries for tastings and take a 10-meter boat to an oyster and mussel farm, where you’ll have a light lunch of excellent, fresh shellfish. Or perhaps you would rather spend a day on the sea, cruising around the Elaphite Islands with a private speedboat and skipper at your disposal?

Peljesac Wine and Oyster Tasting Private Tour

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

Spend a day exploring the beautiful green scenery and blue bays of the Peljesac peninsula, where you can enjoy the extraordinary flavors of Dalmatian wine and cuisine. The region produces Croatia’s most famous wines. The tour starts in the morning, and your driver will pick you up at your accommodations. Your trip will include two stops in local wineries for tastings and the small village of Hodilje, where you’ll ride a boat to a private island. There, at a family-owned oyster and mussel farm, you'll have the opportunity to taste fresh oysters, with a welcome brandy and light lunch of mussels. After dining, you’ll make your way back to the mainland, then be driven to your accommodations.

Day Stop in Split

The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD, building a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside its ancient walls. These days there is an embankment in front of Diocletian's palace but the water used to go right up to the main wall. It's on this man-made strip of land that you'll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life. Split's UNESCO listed Old Town is contained within these old walls and is a pedestrian-only maze that it is quite easy, but fun, to get lost in. Who know what romantic hidden cafés you might find in one of the narrow streets and alleyways? To get the best out of your time in Split, however, we recommend taking a tour with a local guide. Split is very well connected for flights, with an international airport a half hour drive away and is a popular stopping point for our guests on their way between Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar, Vis, or Korcula, all easily reached by a ferry from Split's port. If you base yourself in Split for a few days, you will find it is also perfect located for visits to some of Croatia's most stunning national parks.

JayWay Travel is the perfect travel company for me. JayWay Travel provided me with a wonderful balance between the assistance and support that reduced the travel chaos and yet still allowed for the independence and spontaneity I yearn to have while traveling.
