France and Italy boast two of Europe's most delectable cuisines and this itinerary is perfect for anyone on a quest not just to sample but also learn how to make some of the most mouthwatering French and Italian dishes. Your culinary journey starts in Paris with a food tour in picturesque Montmartre and a hands-on experience during which you'll learn how to make famous French pastries from scratch, like a true French baker. From there, head to Lyon, the country's indisputable gastronomic capital where you'll indulge in yet another food tour, but also a winery tour for a glimpse into the secrets of the locals' beloved Beaujolais wine. Italian cuisine needs no special introduction but, still, your next stop might surprise you with its incredible flavors.

Bologna is Italy's food capital for a reason and you'll have the chance to wander its quaint streets sampling local delicacies as you go before you venture out to some of the region's smaller towns to find out how Parmigiano Reggiano, balsamic vinegar, and Prosciutto are made. Your trip through the tastes of France and Italy ends in Rome, and more specifically, with unique culinary activities, such as cooking classes and superb wine pairings.

Our team members in France and Italy will be available to you leading up to and during your trip to answer any questions and arrange local services. You will receive access to your Guest Page, with its information on the best France and Italy have to offer, including things to see and do, and other inside tips from restaurant recommendations to tipping advice. Upon request, we will provide you with an eSIM with data that you can use to reach your local JayWay contact (whom you will meet in person) throughout your trip. In all of our destinations, we offer a variety of memorable 3- to 5-star accommodation options, including boutique hotels and charming B&Bs. With our firsthand experience, we can ensure they are all clean, comfortable, and centrally located, with local ambiance.

Paris is situated in the northern part of France. The city sprawls over both banks of the Seine River and on two islands: the Îles Saint Louis and the larger Île de la Cité. The historical city center is built around the Seine, and it has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. For a glimpse into the oldest part of Paris, take a stroll along the Seine and around the 1st and 4th districts to admire iconic landmarks, such as the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris or the Louvre Museum, among others. But leave some space and time for the rest of the city's districts, as each of Paris' 20 arrondissements possesses incredible treasures to discover.

The third-largest city and second-largest urban area in France, Lyon is situated at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône. Traveling to Lyon feels like entering a triple-faced city. One has grown along the banks of the Saône and onto the Presqu'île (peninsula) since the time of the Roman Empire, leading to the creation of the largest Renaissance district in France. The second one goes beyond the Rhône to the East and dates from the eighteenth century onwards. The third one, to the South, coincides with modern Lyon's beating heart in the contemporary Confluence district.

Bologna is the capital of Emilia Romagna and makes a fantastic base for exploring the legendary 'food valley'. The city's history stretches back a few hundred years before Christ and it is home to the oldest university in Europe. These facts are responsible for two of the nicknames Bologna owns with pride. La Dotta – 'the learned one' and La Grassa – 'the fat one'. Truly you're never far from a spectacular meal in Bologna, as long as you're not vegan. Emilia Romagna might not be a name that's as well known as neighboring Tuscany but its food specialties are renowned the world over. The king of Italian cheeses: Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma and traditional Aceto Balsamico are all from around here and a visit to see how they're produced is a must. Petrolheads will also find much to love in Emilia Romagna. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Maserati are all produced close by and have museums or factory tours available. If 'slow food' and fast cars aren't your thing then Bologna still doesn't disappoint. A thriving arts scene means you'll easily find a more cultured diversion, from art galleries to operas. And if you want to work up an appetite, the gently leaning Asinelli Tower's almost 500 steps will help you burn some calories. From the top you'll see why Bologna has another nickname 'La Rossa' – the red one, as you gaze out over the red tiled roofs of the old city, which escaped WWII largely undamaged by Allied bombing raids.

The capital of Italy is a vibrant, energetic and stylish city. While thoroughly modern in sensibility, Rome is also home to some of the world’s most important works of classic art and architecture. This city has been an epicenter for culture, politics and religion for more than 2,500 years. From the Spanish Steps to the Vatican, there are more than enough sights to keep even the most active tourists busy and even somewhere as popular as Rome you can find places just off the tourist trail and bustling with locals. But it’s also nice to slow down and enjoy Rome’s famous cafes and restaurants, which can be just as beguiling as the buildings. Lounge with an espresso on the Campo de Fiori and watch the changing light on the fountains and the facades. Visit the Vatican and explore some of the world’s most beautiful churches. Rome really comes alive at night, when restaurants and wine bars bring a renewed vitality to the city. You’ll also have opportunities for day trips to local vineyards, olive groves, and other places producing regional delicacies. No matter what your interests, or what kind of holiday you’re looking for, Rome will be an enjoyable destination.
