The Ultimate Italy & Greece Honeymoon

14 Days / 13 Nights

Rome, Positano, Naples, Mykonos, Santorini, Athens

from$5,250 per person

Travel and LeisureFodorsUSA TodayNew York TimesNational GeographicWashington PostVogue

Could there be a more perfect pair, other than yourselves of course? This honeymoon combining some of the absolute highlights of Italy and Greece will be the trip of a lifetime. You'll start out in Rome, a city for lovers if ever there was one. If it's your first time or your fifth, we'll make it memorable. It's there that you'll meet your local JayWay contact who'll be available to you throughout your trip by phone to answer questions and make additional arrangements.

A high-speed train will whisk you to Napoli, but you're just passing through. From there a driver will take you to the other side of the Sorrentine peninsula, to Italy's storied Amalfi Coast. We've picked Positano as your base there but you could also stay in Amalfi itself or Sorrento.

After a few days there enjoying the coastal views and day trips, it's back to Naples, to the airport this time for a short hop across the Med to Mykonos. You're on island time for a few days as you'll also be spending time on Santorini. Your European honeymoon draws to a close in Greece's capital, reached by ferry or flight according to your preference. Spectacular Acropolis views and cultural experiences round out the adventure.

The services we provide as part of our comprehensive packages include accommodations, transfers, ferry tickets, intra-European flights, city tours and day trips. In addition to the tours included we can arrange a number of excursions based on your own interests. All of our tours are custom, and this is just a sample meant to give an idea of what our trips are like, and the opportunities our destinations provide.

You will receive access to your Guest Page, with its information on the best these destinations have to offer, including things to see and do, and other inside tips from restaurant recommendations to tipping advice. Upon arrival, we will provide you with a local SIM that you can use to reach your local JayWay contact (who you will meet in person) throughout your trip. In all of our destinations, we offer a variety of memorable 2-5 star accommodation options, including boutique hotels, charming B&Bs, and spacious apartments. With our firsthand experience, we can ensure they are all clean, comfortable, and centrally located, with local ambience.

The capital of Italy is a vibrant, energetic and stylish city. While thoroughly modern in sensibility, Rome is also home to some of the world’s most important works of classic art and architecture. This city has been an epicenter for culture, politics and religion for more than 2,500 years. From the Spanish Steps to the Vatican, there are more than enough sights to keep even the most active tourists busy and even somewhere as popular as Rome you can find places just off the tourist trail and bustling with locals. But it’s also nice to slow down and enjoy Rome’s famous cafes and restaurants, which can be just as beguiling as the buildings. Lounge with an espresso on the Campo de Fiori and watch the changing light on the fountains and the facades. Visit the Vatican and explore some of the world’s most beautiful churches. Rome really comes alive at night, when restaurants and wine bars bring a renewed vitality to the city. You’ll also have opportunities for day trips to local vineyards, olive groves, and other places producing regional delicacies. No matter what your interests, or what kind of holiday you’re looking for, Rome will be an enjoyable destination.

Day 1

Day 1 - Arrival in Rome

After you land at Rome's Fiumicino airport you will be met in the arrivals hall by a driver holding a sign with your name on. The journey to your accommodation in the center of Rome should take around an hour.

Aperitivo

Suggestion to explore on your own

If you are strolling in the city and it gets to early evening (around 6:30 PM), well, it's time for the "happy hour"! An Italian happy hour is called "aperitivo," and most bars offer it around this time. You can find many different kinds of aperitivo, from buffet to "à la carte", where you pick a drink (usually a glass of white wine or some prosecco) and you'll get something light to eat such as chips, nuts, or slices of pizza with it. The best places where you can go are Freni e Frizioni (Trastevere), Doppiozeroo (Ostiense), and Rec23 (Testaccio - a few steps from Circo Massimo). From June to September, along the river (Lungo Il Tevere), there are many stands and places where you can go right next to the water on the sidewalk.

Roman Holiday in Love

Suggestion to explore on your own

There are many ways to make your stay in Rome even more romantic. For a little light exercise along with your romance, head to the artificial lake in the Villa Borghese Gardens. For just a few euros, you and your beloved can go to the water and circumnavigate the impressive Temple of Asclepius, which sits on the island in the middle. Enjoy a spa treatment themed after some Italian classic wines. Choose from the grand Brunello di Montalcino or a bubbly Prosecco experience, as well as a tasting of the fruit of the vine itself. That theme runs all the way through your two-hour treatment, from grape seed scrubs to scented bubbles. Let your local Destination Expert know when you'd like to schedule your visit, and we'll make a reservation directly at the spa, located right in the heart of Rome, by the Pantheon.

Of all the towns that constitute the Amalfi Coast, Positano is almost certainly the most photographed. A cascade of color rolling down steep hillsides towards the sea. The Amalfi Coast road snakes through the town, providing the main means of connectivity to the outside world. The only other option is by boat and there are regular ferries to the other Amalfi Coast towns and to Capri island in the Bay of Naples, so day-tripping is definitely a possibility. Positano's coarse-grain sand public beaches can fill up fast on sunny days but there are quieter stretches to be found and a water taxi ride will take you to somewhere more secluded. Positano is at one end of the Path of the Gods, a demanding hiking trail that will take you inland to the town of Agerola, but the journey is its own reward, with some killer views along the way.

To call Naples rough around the edges would be quite the understatement. Yet amidst the chaos and beneath the grime is one of Italy's true gems. It's the third-largest city in the country, home to over three million people. An important port city for all the civilizations that have existed there, Naples is the original melting pot. Founded as Neapolis (literally "new city") by the Greeks in the 7th century B.C., Naples has many layers of history for you to discover.

Although Mykonos is mainly known for its glamorous nightlife and summer beach party scene, which has made it the center of attention among the world’s most affluent travelers and celebrities, who come to the island to enjoy its nights, the island has managed to preserve its historical charm. Mykonos’s unique architecture has long been a source of inspiration for architects, photographers and designers across the globe. The island’s architectural diversity and history are reflected in the hundreds of whitewashed churches and monasteries which are scattered across its barren landscape, the imposing windmills that once played a crucial role in the island’s economy, and its colorful pirate houses, which point to its turbulent past. Apart from the famed beaches that make headlines for their extravagant champagne parties and prices, there are plenty of natural, quieter beaches to savor and explore. Those looking to escape crowds can also find their paradise on Mykonos. Foodies find much to adore in the island's flavors, aromas, and sights. The island caters to the most discerning palates -- from dining in family-owned beach tavernas with your toes touching the sand, to renowned international establishments serving award-winning cuisine, or indulging on freshly grilled seafood prepared by a private chef on a secluded beach.

Suggestion to explore on your own

Stroll around the little streets of the Mykonos Chora (Old Town) and enjoy the sunset from the windmills with a romantic view of the Little Venice district. A few of the ancient mills still exist as a testament to the rich past and history of the island. In use for centuries, the windmills ceased to mill grain during the 20th century and now mostly contribute to the island's economy by helping create a special atmosphere, especially during sunset. On your way back into town, have a drink at one of the bars in the lively Little Venice.

“Intelligent adults come here and turn into infants,” Craig Walzer, owner of the Atlantis Bookstore. Santorini is every traveler's dream. The whitewashed houses and blue domed churches perched atop of soaring cliffs, the narrow cobblestone streets and unsurpassed views of crystal-clear blue waters -- these all greet you as you step foot on this fairytale land. Intertwining myth and reality, Santorini is every bit as beautiful as the countless postcards, magazine covers, and Instagram photos claim. The village of Oia is world-famous for its sunset, where thousands of spectators line up every evening to witness the magic as the sun bids farewell to the sky and the canvas lights up in fierce hues. Fortunately, the sunset can be enjoyed from much of the rest of this crescent-shaped island. Santorini is also home to Akrotiri, the Greek take on Pompeii. Inhabited since Neolithic times, this city was built up by the Minoans, a seafaring civilization that predated the ancient Greeks, only to be destroyed in the catastrophic eruption that shaped Santorini, which forms part of a massive volcanic caldera. Covered in ashes for millennia, Akrotiri is still being uncovered. We suggest visiting the neighboring center of the caldera, where you can enjoy hot springs, visit the volcanic crater, and enjoy stunning views of Santorini itself. Santorini’s unique ecology, climate and volcanic ash soil paved the way for a flourishing wine industry. Its indigenous varietals will make your stay even more enjoyable.

Santorini is a perfect destination for romance, drawing couples from around the world for honeymoons and anniversaries. Naturally, Santorini Island is full of romantic options, from sunset bars overlooking the caldera to wineries offering local wine tasting with breathtaking views of the volcanic caldera. We recommend taking it slow at the end of a memorable day by visiting an open-air cinema. Kamari, a village on the eastern part of the island, perhaps has the country's best theater.

Although it's hard to not keep craning your head to take in the spectacle of the Acropolis at the center of town (especially when it's lit up at night), there's more to Athens than its dense concentration of ancient ruins. Athens is a center for contemporary art, with modern galleries sitting beside museums stuffed with art dating back millennia. This combination of the old and new is especially clear at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a spectacular open-air theater that has hosted concerts and plays for nearly 2,000 years. The city's culture is also reflected in its diverse food and drink, which combines traditional Greek favorites with influences from across the Mediterranean, and the world, as fitting Athens' deep history as a humming harbor hub. While Athens' variety is enough to keep you busy, from the hidden back alleys of the center, to the city's showy coast, the city works well as a base for day trips, whether down the coast, or to the Peloponnese. Head to oracular Delphi, or hunt for where Lord Byron's carved his name into the monumental Temple of Poseidon at the tip of Cape Sounion.

Love at First Sight

Suggestion to explore on your own

Athens has plenty of rooftop venues to take advantage of the opportunity to see the Acropolis shining at night. They have become popular hubs for nightlife among locals. One of our favorite rooftop bars is POINT A (Acropolis Point), which is the only bar that provides views of both the Acropolis and the modern elegant lines of the Acropolis Museum, lit beautifully at night. POINT A has a relaxed vibe and Greek cuisine with a twist. It’s perfect for couples and even families or groups of friends. If you happen to stay around the Monastiraki district, you should definitely visit A for Athens cocktail bar and restaurant, a popular venue among locals. Hytra and GB Roof Garden are full-on luxury restaurants and bars that can provide perfect romantic evenings. We guarantee that if you spend your first night dining at one of those places, you will quickly fall in love with the mind-blowing views and lively city.
