Paris is situated in the northern part of France. The city sprawls over both banks of the Seine River and on two islands: the Îles Saint Louis and the larger Île de la Cité. The historical city center is built around the Seine, and it has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. For a glimpse into the oldest part of Paris, take a stroll along the Seine and around the 1st and 4th districts to admire iconic landmarks, such as the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris or the Louvre Museum, among others. But leave some space and time for the rest of the city's districts, as each of Paris' 20 arrondissements possesses incredible treasures to discover.

Small in size but full of history, the capital of the French department of Vaucluse is an unmissable city in the Provence region. Once the capital of the Christian world, Avignon is a city that enchants visitors with the splendor of its architecture. Sprinkled with buildings and monuments ranging from the new to the old to the very old and the ageless, or wandering in the medieval streets and around the ramparts that dominate the banks of the Rhône River is a constant journey through time. Every July, Avignon blends the past with the present and the future as it turns its architectural wonders into performance venues during the much-loved Festival d'Avignon.

Secrets of Provence Revealed

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

On your second day in Avignon, we recommend taking a day trip to the gorgeous countryside of Provence, probably the most scenic region in France. While the unfathomable beauty of the countryside itself would be worth a trip in its own right, we would highly recommend choosing among two day tours that focus on two different aspects of the region. Our first recommendation is a journey into the region's Roman past. Provence was inhabited by the Romans as early as the first century BC. During this tour, you will be shown around several impressive buildings of the time, such as an ancient theater with remarkable acoustics, an amphitheater, and Pont du Gard, the tallest aqueduct ever built by the Ancient Romans. Our second suggestion is a tour that follows in the footsteps of one of the world's greatest artists: Vincent Van Gogh. The famous artist was so enchanted by Provence that he moved to Arles, a quaint town that you will have the pleasure of seeing on a lovely walking tour. You will then visit the Saint-Remy-de-Provence psychiatric clinic where Van Gogh voluntarily admitted himself before ending your tour at the picture-perfect stone village of Les Baux de Provence.

Follow in the footsteps of one of the greatest painters of all time during an 8-hour tour that provides valuable insight into the life of Vincent Van Gogh. Start your day with a walking tour of Arles, the quaint town that made Vincent Van Gogh fall in love with Provence and its charms. Arles is where the painter spent one of the most prolific periods in his life before voluntarily admitting himself to the Saint-Remy-de-Provence psychiatric clinic, the next stop on your fascinating itinerary. The tour ends with a stroll around the gorgeous stone village of Les Baux de Provence.
