Prague Plus Croatia's Dalmatian Highlights

The sample ten night itinerary will have you visiting a varied selection of European gems. Start in magical Prague with an old town undamaged by WWII. A short flight takes you to Split, where the old town is within the walls of a Roman emperor's retirement palace. Get in some island time on Hvar, Europe's sunniest island. Finish your vacation with a couple of nights in magnificent Dubrovnik. All of our tours are custom, and this is just a sample meant to give an idea for what our trips are like, and the opportunities our destinations provide. One of our team in the region will be available to you during and leading up to the trip to answer any questions and arrange local services. You will receive access to your Guest Page, with its information on the best these destinations have to offer, including things to see and do, and other inside tips from restaurant recommendations to tipping advice. Upon arrival we will provide you with a local cell phone that you can use to contact our employee (who you will meet in person) throughout your trip. In all of our destinations, we offer a variety of memorable 3-5 accommodation options, including boutique hotels, charming B&Bs, and spacious apartments. With our firsthand experience, we can ensure they are all clean, comfortable, and centrally located, with local ambience.

“The Golden City,” “The City of 100 Spires,” “The Mother of Cities,” Prague has no shortage of nicknames paying homage to its charm and beauty. Prague’s winding cobblestone streets, gorgeous architecture and atmospheric bridges are fabled. Get up early and stroll across the statue-lined Charles Bridge. Soak it all in standing in the magnificent Old Town Square and admiring the craftsmanship of its 600-year old astronomical clock. From exploring the history and modern culture on foot, to traveling farther afield to take in the picturesque countryside and fairytale villages, you’ll have an itinerary full of adventure and relaxation. Besides the city’s history, which is evident on every street, including the beautifully preserved former Jewish Quarter, you can delve into the city’s gastronomy. You can literally dive into some of Europe’s best beers by visiting a beer spa, or explore its beloved breweries with walking tours, or enjoy a dinner cruise. Day-trip destinations include scenic castles, the perfect spa town, and Kutna Hora with its “bone church” and gothic cathedral. Prague is a city of history that comes to life for every visitor, no matter their interests.

Day 1 - Arrival in Prague

A driver will be at the airport to greet you and transfer you to your centrally located Prague accommodations.

Get Lost on Medieval Streets

Suggestion to explore on your own

On your first night in Prague we recommend strolling around the center's side streets. It's easy to get lost here, but the river and signage make it easy to find your way home. Prague's city center side streets. With so many buildings lit up, we think this romantic walk will help you fall in love with Prague right away. There are many rooftops bars open in the summer, for which your local JayWay contact will provide some recommendations. If you don't feel like having a drink, climb up one of the lookout towers open after sunset, especially the Old Town Bridge Tower and Powder Tower.

Day 2

Day 2 - Your First Full Day in Prague

Prague Private Walking Tour

Get to Know Prague on a City Walking Tour

Kutna Hora Private Day Trip

Explore Bohemia on a Day Trip from Prague

Included in your vacation package price.

Built atop a rich silver deposit, Kutna Hora’s wealth has for centuries only been overshadowed by Prague’s. The silver mine is open for tours, except during December. Much of this wealth went into the town’s architecture, from its massive palace with excellent views, to its churches. Your tour will include St. Barbara’s Cathedral. Devoted to the patron saint of miners, this massive Gothic/Baroque building stands out, with its three peaks and flying buttresses. Be sure to check out the preserved medieval frescoes behind the altar, showing life in the town, and religious scenes, as well as the vaulted chamber between the ceiling and rooftop.

Kutna’s Hora’s main draw, though, is its “Bone Church,” the Sedlac Ossuary. When Crusaders returned with holy earth from Jerusalem, the town had a problem: more people wanted to buried in this sacred soil than could fit! The locals decided to exhume bodies to make room, and over time, 70,000 skeletons became decorations, with bones forming chandeliers, garlands, coats of arms, and even the name of the local woodcarver who created most of the decorations. This macabre must-see memento mori will make for a good story when you return home! The center of Kutna Hora is quite walkable, but the Sedlac Ossuary is more than a mile away, so the driver and guide will be at your disposal all day.

The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD, building a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside its ancient walls. These days there is an embankment in front of Diocletian's palace but the water used to go right up to the main wall. It's on this man-made strip of land that you'll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life. Split's UNESCO listed Old Town is contained within these old walls and is a pedestrian-only maze that it is quite easy, but fun, to get lost in. Who know what romantic hidden cafés you might find in one of the narrow streets and alleyways? To get the best out of your time in Split, however, we recommend taking a tour with a local guide. Split is very well connected for flights, with an international airport a half hour drive away and is a popular stopping point for our guests on their way between Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar, Vis, or Korcula, all easily reached by a ferry from Split's port. If you base yourself in Split for a few days, you will find it is also perfect located for visits to some of Croatia's most stunning national parks.

Day 6 - Traveling to Hvar by Ferry

They say the shortest route between two points is a straight line. That's usually the case in Croatia too but it isn't always the most fun. We've worked with a local tour provider to come up with an exceptional three-in-one way to get from Split to Hvar. Your day begins with a short walk to the port in Split, while your luggage gets there by golf buggy. Instead of the regular ferry you will join a small boat trip that leaves at 8:30 am to the Vis Blue Cave, then on to the jaw-dropping Pakleni Archipelago, where you'll have a couple of hours for swimming and lunch, then you'll arrive around 5 pm on Hvar. If the Blue Cave and a trip out to the Pakleni archipelago were on your Hvar must-see list, well you've already done it on the way, leaving more time to explore the island itself and saving money too!

Next door is Bonj les bains, a bathing platform complete with renovated 1930s changing rooms, massage tables and more. Just two kilometers northwest is the beach of the Hotel Sirena, secluded amid pines and wild sage. There’s a bar and grill too. A further two kilometers away is Kamp Vira, a pebble beach with a flat shore and good facilities. Take the boat taxi (30kn, 30mins) to the beaches of the Pakleni islands, in particular the secluded, sandy one at Palmizana. Nudists (and a surprising number of families) gather at the mostly untouched Jerolim Island's beaches, and Stipanska on Marinkovac, site of the renowned Carpe Diem Beach bar. Eat and Meet with Locals Small Group Dinner

Eat Like a Local

Included in your vacation package price.

Dubrovnik's got some good (and some unfortunately not-so-good) restaurants but the best meal you can possibly have in town isn't at a restaurant. It's to be had at a local's home, sitting down with a family and a select few other visitors. We'll secure you a spot for a Dalmatian dinner experience without equal, that has been written about in the pages of the Wall Street Journal and National Geographic. You'll enjoy a multi-course dinner with wine, where the main event is a spectacular peka dinner - a traditional style of cooking usually translated as 'under the bell'. Lamb, veal and veg covered slow-cooked with the heat coming from all sides. Our marketing director described this as the best meal he's ever eaten in Croatia. Find out why for yourself.

Day 10

Day 10 - Your First Full Day in Dubrovnik

After Your Tour: City Walls, Cable Car and Lokrum Island

Suggestion to explore on your own

As well as taking a short walking tour of Dubrovnik's old town with a private guide, which will tell you all about the city's history and get you oriented, there are a few other must-dos when in this breathtaking city and all involve getting a different perspective on the magnificent walled Old Town.

Continue your day in Dubrovnik after the tour with a ride on the cable car up Mount Srd' to take in the views. You'll find the bottom station of the cable car by exiting the city through the Buža Gate. Walking the circumference of the ancient city walls themselves is a way to get another view of the town. It's a bit of a climb to the top of the Minceta Tower, but highly recommended.

If you also want to see Dubrovnik from afar, then take a boat trip to Lokrum Island, an oasis of nature and tranquility just ten minutes from the Old Town harbor. This island has peacocks and monastery ruins hidden among its pine, cypress, and olive trees. You will also find a botanical garden here.
