3 Nights in Rome

The capital of Italy is a vibrant, energetic and stylish city. While thoroughly modern in sensibility, Rome is also home to some of the world’s most important works of classic art and architecture. This city has been an epicenter for culture, politics and religion for more than 2,500 years. From the Spanish Steps to the Vatican, there are more than enough sights to keep even the most active tourists busy and even somewhere as popular as Rome you can find places just off the tourist trail and bustling with locals. But it’s also nice to slow down and enjoy Rome’s famous cafes and restaurants, which can be just as beguiling as the buildings. Lounge with an espresso on the Campo de Fiori and watch the changing light on the fountains and the facades. Visit the Vatican and explore some of the world’s most beautiful churches. Rome really comes alive at night, when restaurants and wine bars bring a renewed vitality to the city. You’ll also have opportunities for day trips to local vineyards, olive groves, and other places producing regional delicacies. No matter what your interests, or what kind of holiday you’re looking for, Rome will be an enjoyable destination.

After Your Tour: City Walls, Cable Car and Lokrum Island

Suggestion to explore on your own

As well as taking a short walking tour of Dubrovnik's old town with a private guide, which will tell you all about the city's history and get you oriented, there are a few other must-dos when in this breathtaking city and all involve getting a different perspective on the magnificent walled Old Town.

Continue your day in Dubrovnik after the tour with a ride on the cable car up Mount Srd' to take in the views. You'll find the bottom station of the cable car by exiting the city through the Buža Gate. Walking the circumference of the ancient city walls themselves is a way to get another view of the town. It's a bit of a climb to the top of the Minceta Tower, but highly recommended.

If you also want to see Dubrovnik from afar, then take a boat trip to Lokrum Island, an oasis of nature and tranquility just ten minutes from the Old Town harbor. This island has peacocks and monastery ruins hidden among its pine, cypress, and olive trees. You will also find a botanical garden here.

Eat and Meet with Locals Small Group Dinner

Eat Like a Local

Included in your vacation package price.

Dubrovnik's got some good (and some unfortunately not-so-good) restaurants but the best meal you can possibly have in town isn't at a restaurant. It's to be had at a local's home, sitting down with a family and a select few other visitors. We'll secure you a spot for a Dalmatian dinner experience without equal, that has been written about in the pages of the Wall Street Journal and National Geographic. You'll enjoy a multi-course dinner with wine, where the main event is a spectacular peka dinner - a traditional style of cooking usually translated as 'under the bell'. Lamb, veal and veg covered slow-cooked with the heat coming from all sides. Our marketing director described this as the best meal he's ever eaten in Croatia. Find out why for yourself.

The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD, building a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside its ancient walls. These days there is an embankment in front of Diocletian's palace but the water used to go right up to the main wall. It's on this man-made strip of land that you'll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life. Split's UNESCO listed Old Town is contained within these old walls and is a pedestrian-only maze that it is quite easy, but fun, to get lost in. Who know what romantic hidden cafés you might find in one of the narrow streets and alleyways? To get the best out of your time in Split, however, we recommend taking a tour with a local guide. Split is very well connected for flights, with an international airport a half hour drive away and is a popular stopping point for our guests on their way between Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar, Vis, or Korcula, all easily reached by a ferry from Split's port. If you base yourself in Split for a few days, you will find it is also perfect located for visits to some of Croatia's most stunning national parks.

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

Explore Dalmatian cooking and ingredients with the help of local experts. You can enjoy wine and olive oil tastings, getting to know the homemade breads and goat cheeses that go best with them. Or, if you're feeling a bit more peckish, sit at the chef's table, and try five traditional Dalmatian tapas. These are quite seasonal, and tend to take advantage of the local seafood. Sitting with the chef, you can learn his techniques and the stories and tasty aims behind each masterful combination of flavors.

If you’re looking for a deliciously filling lunch or dinner in Split, we can also highly recommend Konoba Fife, right on the harbor. There you’ll find delicious local seafood and an authentic atmosphere at the right price. It’s a charming spot that’s inviting and unpretentious, authentic instead of stuffy. Be sure to ask about the daily specials! We also recommend visiting Split's famous fish and greengrocer's markets, a central part of local life. We recommend visiting in early morning, when the seafood is at its freshest, and there are the most options. This is when many locals buy food for lunch.

And since no trip to the city of canals is complete without a boat ride, we offer a number of ways for you to get a new point of view of the city and its magnificent architecture. It’s easy to while away your time in Venice, discovering new secrets around every corner.

Day 11

Day 11 - Arrival in Venice

Start your Venetian experience off in style by arriving in a private water taxi. We'll arrange a transfer by boat from Venice Marco Polo airport to the closest possible point to your hotel in Venice. Please note that porter assistance from the water taxi to the hotel is not included but can be arranged at extra charge.

Art Masterpieces at Every Turn

Suggestion to explore on your own

Venice is all about art. Get lost in its narrow alleys and discover hidden pieces of art all around you: mosaics on some of the most ancient buildings, amazingly decorated facades, creative sculptures, and columns with spectacular capitals. Almost every church hosts beautiful and famous paintings, and other pieces of art.

Not to be missed are the Biennale exhibitions: cinematic, dance, musical, and theatrical events take place annually. The art and architecture exhibitions that trade places every other year have been two of the world's most prestigious cultural institutions for over 120 years. Apart from the main exhibitions in Giardini and Arsenale, there are smaller installations all around the island, hidden inside the most ancient and beautiful buildings of Venice, providing the perfect combination of contemporary art and history!

Day 12

Day 12 - Your First Full Day in Venice

Grand Canal Small Group Boat Tour

Grand Canal Small Group Boat Tour

Included in your vacation package price.

The Grand Canal of Venice is the most spectacular "Main Street" in the world. This tour helps you to imagine what the Grand Canal was like when there were still gardens, "squeri" (where the gondolas were built), warehouses, and stonemasons. This 60 minute tour includes a cruise along the city's more secluded waterways to enjoy the picturesque small bridges and "off the beaten track'' sights, to introduce you to a quieter Venice. Venice was built to be appreciated from the water, and many of its best facades can only be seen from the canals. This boat tour is enjoyable for all ages and gives your feet a well-earned rest!

Murano and Burano

Suggestion to explore on your own

Today we suggest going off the beaten path and onto a boat to cross the water and explore two islands which are not islands at all. Murano and Burano are tiny archipelagos, collections of islands linked by numerous bridges. On Murano, the stately architecture is stunning but the main attraction here is the collection of incredible glassblowers, whose works in progress you can see at Murano’s many ateliers. In 1291, all the glassmakers working in Venice were forced to move to Murano, because of the risk of fires from the ovens and molten glass. Burano is also an archipelago in northern Venice, consisting of four islands linked by many bridges. What you’ll notice first are the brightly painted houses, which make the island glow with an energy all its own. Largely inhabited by artists, it’s a great place to poke around and explore, including the Church of San Martino, which houses a classic Tiepolo painting from the 18th century. We can arrange tickets for a group boat trip but you might prefer exploring on your own. A 24-hour vaporetto ticket covers your transport needs and means you're free to come and go as you please rather than being herded onto a boat.

The response time was always EXTREMELY fast. JayWay Travel did it all, all I had to do was show up, which was really important to us for our honeymoon. We met true local people that we never would have gotten to know without JayWay.
