Venice is a legendary city with a charm and atmosphere all its own. The city was constructed on more than 100 islands connected by a series of canals, most of which are lined with gorgeous palaces, beautiful churches, and all sorts of impressive architecture. While the city isn’t huge, it is packed with pedestrian-only streets and quaint, winding alleys that will keep you exploring for days. The city is very popular with tourists year-round, so you certainly won’t be the only travelers walking through the streets with camera in hand. This being Italy, the cuisine in Venice is delicious, and we can especially recommend the Cicchetti of Venice tour. Cicchetti are Venetian tapas, and this tour will introduce you to some of the city’s most iconic eateries and its most delicious recipes. If it’s your first time in Venice, we can organize a tour to show you all the most important sites. And since no trip to the city of canals is complete without a boat ride, we offer a number of ways for you to get a new point of view of the city and its magnificent architecture. It’s easy to while away your time in Venice, discovering new secrets around every corner.

There are plenty of wonderful restaurants and bars to visit, and the lights and live music on St. Mark’s square at night are just lovely. The atmosphere throughout the city is incomparable. Every little alley leads to some new discovery, and the ever-present sound of the sea is enchanting. But of course, no romantic visit to Venice is complete without a gondola ride. Murano and Burano

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

Today we suggest going off the beaten path and onto a boat to cross the water and explore two islands which are not islands at all. Murano and Burano are tiny archipelagos, collections of islands linked by numerous bridges. On Murano, the stately architecture is stunning but the main attraction here is the collection of incredible glassblowers, whose works in progress you can see at Murano’s many ateliers.

Burano is also an archipelago in northern Venice, consisting of four islands linked by many bridges. What you’ll notice first are the brightly painted houses, which make the island glow with an energy all its own. Largely inhabited by artists, it’s a great place to poke around and explore. We can arrange tickets for a group boat trip or a private one of you would like.

Murano, Burano & Torcello Private Tour

Murano, Burano & Torcello Private Tour

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

This tour takes you to three must-see islands of the Venetian Lagoon: Murano, Burano, and Torcello. Murano has been famous for its glassmaking since the 10th century, which we'll help you explore. Then you'll see the colorful island of Burano, which is famous for its brightly colored houses, fishing industry and lacemaking. Third is Torcello, known as the “Mother of Venice.” You will have the chance to visit its basilica, one of the Lagoon's oldest churches, and home to beautiful mosaics, although you can instead focus on the island's museum, or just spend your time strolling about the enchanting, historic island.

The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD, building a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside its ancient walls. These days there is an embankment in front of Diocletian's palace but the water used to go right up to the main wall. It's on this man-made strip of land that you'll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life. Split's UNESCO listed Old Town is contained within these old walls and is a pedestrian-only maze that it is quite easy, but fun, to get lost in. Who know what romantic hidden cafés you might find in one of the narrow streets and alleyways? To get the best out of your time in Split, however, we recommend taking a tour with a local guide. Split is very well connected for flights, with an international airport a half hour drive away and is a popular stopping point for our guests on their way between Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar, Vis, or Korcula, all easily reached by a ferry from Split's port. If you base yourself in Split for a few days, you will find it is also perfect located for visits to some of Croatia's most stunning national parks.

In Split You Won't Want to Split

Suggestion to explore on your own

Split may not have the most romantic name in the world, but is still a lovely city for a romantic holiday, with a perfect mix of vibrant nightlife and fun outdoor activities. The landscape here is incredible, poised just on the edge of the Adriatic. If you come here during the Split Summer Festival, you’ll get to enjoy the absolutely unique atmosphere as you watch theater and opera on Peristil Square but you can enjoy the city at any time of year. Renting bikes is a great way to explore the area together, and Marjan Hill is especially inviting, with views over the city and the sea. This is a wonderful place to stay active together, but you can also just relax and lounge on the beach, or enjoy a dinner at Dvor, one of the city's most romantic restaurants.

Just two kilometers northwest is the beach of the Hotel Sirena, secluded amid pines and wild sage. There’s a bar and grill too. A further two kilometers away is Kamp Vira, a pebble beach with a flat shore and good facilities. Take the boat taxi to the beaches of the Pakleni islands, in particular the secluded, sandy one at Palmizana. You'll find more details on our blog.
