Venice is a legendary city with a charm and atmosphere all its own. The city was constructed on more than 100 islands connected by a series of canals, most of which are lined with gorgeous palaces, beautiful churches, and all sorts of impressive architecture. While the city isn’t huge, it is packed with pedestrian-only streets and quaint, winding alleys that will keep you exploring for days. The city is very popular with tourists year-round, so you certainly won’t be the only travelers walking through the streets with camera in hand. This being Italy, the cuisine in Venice is delicious, and we can especially recommend the Cicchetti of Venice tour. Cicchetti are Venetian tapas, and this tour will introduce you to some of the city’s most iconic eateries and its most delicious recipes. If it’s your first time in Venice, we can organize a tour to show you all the most important sites. And since no trip to the city of canals is complete without a boat ride, we offer a number of ways for you to get a new point of view of the city and its magnificent architecture. It’s easy to while away your time in Venice, discovering new secrets around every corner.

Day 1

Day 1 - Arrival in Venice

Start your Venetian experience off in style by arriving in a private water taxi. We'll arrange a transfer by boat from Venice Marco Polo airport to your hotel in the city.

Venice: A City for Lovers

Suggestion to explore on your own

Venice is a city of dreams and romance. A vacation here with your sweetheart will be a memory you’ll cherish forever. It’s hard to go wrong when you’re strolling along the canals in one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the world. You can enjoy a variety of excellent tours on land and water that will help you explore all of Venice’s secrets. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants and bars to visit, and the lights and live music on St. Mark’s square at night are just lovely. The atmosphere throughout the city is incomparable. Every little alley leads to some new discovery, and the ever-present sound of the sea is enchanting. But of course, no romantic visit to Venice is complete without a gondola ride. As you get close in your own private gondola, floating along on the gentle current as waves lap up against stairs leading to ancient palaces, you’ll know why Venice has always been a city for lovers.

Day 2

Day 2 - Your First Full Day in Venice

Introducing Venice: A Private Tour

Please ask your travel advisor for the cost to add this to your package

If this is your first time in Venice or you just want to get reacquainted with the city, we recommend our special three-hour private tour with a local guide. You’ll be picked up from your accommodation, then shown through the elegant Piazza San Marco, bordered by the governmental buildings of the ancient republic. Next you’ll stop into the St. Mark Church, and then enjoy a pleasant walk through the Castello district, the square of San Giovanni e Paolo and the Marco Polo house. From the top of Rialto bridge you’ll discover the splendors of the Grand Canal, and you’ll end in the market, where you can sip a glass of wine and enjoy some light bites. At the end of the tour your guide can take you back to your accommodation or suggest further destinations for exploration.

Venetian Tapas & Wine Tour

Please ask your travel advisor for the cost to add this to your package

You're in Italy so good food isn't too far away if you know where to look. One of our favorite ways to get to know a city is by taking a food tour. We can highly recommend taking part in this small group tour and getting your culinary bearings set with an afternoon sampling 'cicchetti', the Venetian version of tapas, accompanied by wine at Venice's best Bacari wine bars.

Activity Level : Easy
Duration : 2.5 hours

Murano & Burano

Suggestion to explore on your own

Today we suggest going off the beaten path and onto a boat to cross the water and explore two islands which are not islands at all. Murano and Burano are tiny archipelagos, collections of islands linked by numerous bridges. On Murano, the stately architecture is stunning but the main attraction here are the incredible glassblowers, whose works in progress you can see at Murano’s many ateliers. In 1291, all the glassmakers working in Venice were forced to move to Murano, because of the risk of fires from the ovens and molten glass. Burano is also an archipelago in northern Venice, consisting of four islands linked by many bridges. What you’ll notice first are the brightly painted houses, which make the island glow with an energy all its own. Largely inhabited by artists, it’s a great place to poke around and explore, including the Church of San Martino, which houses a classic Tiepolo painting from the 18th century. We can arrange tickets for a group boat trip but you might prefer exploring on your own, a 24 hour vaporetto ticket covers your transport needs and means you're free to come and go as you please rather than being herded onto a boat.

The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD, building a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside its ancient walls. These days there is an embankment in front of Diocletian's palace but the water used to go right up to the main wall. It's on this man-made strip of land that you'll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life. Split's UNESCO listed Old Town is contained within these old walls and is a pedestrian-only maze that it is quite easy, but fun, to get lost in. Who know what romantic hidden cafés you might find in one of the narrow streets and alleyways? To get the best out of your time in Split, however, we recommend taking a tour with a local guide. Split is very well connected for flights, with an international airport a half hour drive away and is a popular stopping point for our guests on their way between Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar, Vis, or Korcula, all easily reached by a ferry from Split's port. If you base yourself in Split for a few days, you will find it is also perfect located for visits to some of Croatia's most stunning national parks.

Be Together in Split

Suggestion to explore on your own

Split may not have the most romantic name in the world, but it is a lovely city for a romantic holiday, with a perfect mix of vibrant nightlife and fun outdoor activities. The landscape here is incredible, poised just on the edge of the Adriatic. If you plan ahead to come here during the Split Summer Festival, you’ll get to enjoy the absolutely unique atmosphere as you watch theater and opera on Peristil Square. But you can enjoy the city at any time of year. Renting bikes is a great way to explore the area together, and Marjan Hill is especially inviting, with views over the city and the sea. Speaking of the sea, kayaking at sunset is one of the most romantic outdoor activities imaginable. This is a wonderful place to stay active together, but you can also just relax and lounge on the beach.

Visit a neighboring country

Suggested activities for an additional cost, depending on your choice

Today’s a great day to get out of the city and see something new. We have two equally unforgettable suggestions, Mostar and Montenegro. Located in a beautiful valley between the high mountains of Herzegovina about two hours from Dubrovnik, Mostar is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The town is exceptional for its dwellings and monuments assembled harmoniously over the centuries, thanks to favorable geographical conditions and a sound economic climate. Mostar’s most famous landmark is an Ottoman stone bridge which connects the city in two parts over the Neretva River. Montenegro is one of region’s last undiscovered secrets. Located less than one hour’s drive from Dubrovnik, Montenegro offers an unforgettable experience; exceptional natural beauty in combination with a rich history and culture. You’ll enjoy the view above the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Kotor Bay with its numerous small settlements. It is a country of contrasts, the new and the old, the mountains and the sea, sun and snow and all of this a little more than a stone’s throw from Dubrovnik.

One could almost entitle the story of the history of Mostar as “The tale of two cities”. These two sides of the city; the left and the right bank of the river are joined by one of the wonders of the modern world, the Mostar Bridge. Your first stop of the day it will be the lovely little hillside town, Počitelj. It is a historic site on the bank of the Neretva River and is a popular tourist stop on the way to Mostar. The fortified town contains a few scattered homes and cafes, a beautiful mosque, a tower and a citadel, surrounded by the remains of a city wall.
