Bucovina, with its beautiful painted monasteries, is the most popular tourist destination in Romania. It's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll see why immediately. A visit and tour here are well worth while. There are 12 wooden monasteries in Bucovina painted with colorful religious images. They are unlike anything else in Romania. This is a quaint and quiet place. There's plenty of green space and easy access to the surrounding hills. Bucovina is a perfect destination for those who like to hike and bike.
Bucovina can definitely feel off-the-beaten-path, but in a good way. It stands out among the villages and smaller cities of Maramures and Transylvania. The whole place is like a museum. You'll love exploring the unique houses and ancient streets. And you can't miss the gorgeous natural scenery. There are also numerous local artisans in Bucovina. These include pottery workshops where you can get hands-on with this traditional craft. You can take several interesting day trips from Bucovina too. You'll have no shortage of activities. This is a wonderful place to escape from the bustle of Romania's larger cities. Visiting Bucovina lets you get back to nature and the true culture of Romania.
"We were so well cared for, it took all the worry out of getting around and making arrangements. The tour that was planned for us was exactly what we hoped for. We have both agreed it was one of the best holidays we have ever had... and we have traveled all over the world for many years."
"JayWay was excellent in that they kept in touch with us for many months exchanging ideas and making the best plans. We have taken 10 Jayway trips since 2007 so that says enough!! Looking forward to the next one. Health and the Lord willing!"

Things to do in Bucovina
The painted monasteries of Bucovina are the obvious draw but there's much more to see in the area and Bucovina's a great base for a day trip to Chernivtsi over the border in Ukraine, but still in the historic region of Bucovina and compared to both Vienna and Jerusalem. There's significant Jewish heritage to be explored in the area too. You can also use Bucovina as a starting point for a two or three day trip to Romania's ultra-traditional Maramures region, finishing up in Transylvania. When we send you your customized itinerary you will be able to choose additional excursions to included in your vacation package or consider for adding later.
