1 Night in Zagreb

Zagreb is a city where different worlds have long come together. Situated at the intersection of ancient trade routes between the Adriatic and Central Europe, it is a cosmopolitan place with various cultural influences evident in the cuisine and architecture at home in any Austro-Hungarian city. You’ll love exploring the open-air markets, impressive buildings, peaceful parks, and many delicious restaurants. Just strolling through the unique combination of medieval towers, 19th century palaces, ancient churches, and market squares is a pleasure, but there’s much more to do here. After exploring all that the city has to offer with a local guide, you’ll be able to make the most of your time. You could also take a guided bike tour around the city, to get a little exercise as you experience the city. But you’ll also want to explore some of the region surrounding Zagreb. As a longer day trip, you could see the delightful Trakoscan, a neo-Gothic castle sitting on a hilltop, surrounded by a romantic English style park with exotic trees and an artificial lake. While you’re there you can also stop in Varazdin to appreciate its ornate baroque architecture.

We'll arrange for a driver to meet you at Zagreb's airport and take you to your centrally located accommodation.

Zagreb Private Walking Tour

See the sights: Private city walking tour

Today you’ll be exploring the most vibrant city in Croatia. In spite of the rapid economic development in the last few decades, Zagreb has retained its charm, and a relaxed feeling that makes it a genuinely human city. Your guide will pick you up at your accommodation and show you around the local points of interest, including Upper Town and the oldest part of the city, St. Mark’s Church, the Parliament, Zagreb Cathedral, Dolac Market and the Stone Gate. The Upper town, the former Gradec, together with Kaptol, which is the oldest part of the city. Tickets on the funicular are included. At the end of the tour you guide can bring you back to your accommodation, or give you tips for further exploration.

Unique Museums: Museum of Broken Relationships, Arts & Crafts Museum

Suggestion to explore on your own

There are numerous museums to visit in Zagreb, but two of the most unique are the Museum of Broken Relationships and the Arts & Crafts Museum. We recommend visiting one or both today. The Museum of Broken Relationships grew from a traveling exhibition revolving around the concept of failed relationships and their ruins. Unlike ‘destructive’ self-help instructions for recovery from failed loves, the museum offers a chance to overcome an emotional collapse through creation: by contributing to the collection. The Museum of Arts and Crafts was founded in 1880 as one of the first institutions of its kind in Europe. The museum was conceived with the intention to create a “collection of samples for master craftsmen and artists who need to re-enhance the production of articles of daily use.” Here you’ll find a rich collection of local cultural and historical creations.

Day 2 - Traveling to Rovinj by Rental Car

Today you will leave Zagreb behind and head to Rovinj on the Istrian peninsula, about a 3-hour drive by the shortest route but we suggest making a detour on the way to Motovun and Groznjan, two of Istria's most significant hilltop towns and a big part of why Istria has the nickname "Croatia's Tuscany".

Rovinj used to go by Rovigno, and to Italian-speakers it still does. This city was once part of the Republic of Venice, which is evident from the street names in Italian to the Venetian architectural flourishes, such as the bell tower that crowns the town. This laid-back spot has a full cultural calendar, with numerous festivals taking place in the warmer months. We’ll help you get to know the local culture, with possible activities like a local wine tasting, a fish cooking masterclass with a local chef, or a truffle hunting adventure in nearby Croatia. Then, to work up an appetite for your next delicious meal, you could rent bikes and cruise through the breathtaking Zlatni Rt Park. You’ll definitely want to visit the local market too. History buffs will love visiting the local cultural heritage museum, which gives great insight into the region. When you’re ready to get in the car, a day trip to Pula is always fun. This busy port town hosts a large market packed with delectable local specialities, and also boasts a Roman amphitheater. You could even arrange a full-day private tour through the gorgeous region of Istria, where more delights await you inland.

A long coastline abutting a clear blue sea, verdant nature inland, plenty of natural, historical, and cultural sights and unforgettable views from hilly villages. Yes, you're right, we're talking about Istria! One more thing which makes Istria a perfect destination is the cuisine, which reflects the geographic, historic, and climatic characteristics of the peninsula. It is based mostly on seafood, olive oil, vegetables, aromatic herbs, and very good wines. Pick one of our day tours and enjoy a fish cooking class, or even try your luck in truffle hunting.

The dishes you will prepare in this special cooking class reflect the seasonal best from Pula's fish market that day. You'll first learn how to easily clean and fillet fish and seafood. Then you'll start creating an amazing meal, including seafood pasta, seafood risotto, fish carpaccio, and more. If the weather allows, the wood-fired barbecue will be ready to receive the fish. In case of bad weather, don't worry, the oven and a good heavy-bottom pan can do miracles. And for your sweet tooth, you'll bake a traditional Istrian dessert paired with dark chocolate mousse prepared with extra virgin olive oil.

1 Night in Split

The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD, building a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside its ancient walls. These days there is an embankment in front of Diocletian's palace but the water used to go right up to the main wall. It's on this man-made strip of land that you'll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life. Split's UNESCO listed Old Town is contained within these old walls and is a pedestrian-only maze that it is quite easy, but fun, to get lost in. Who know what romantic hidden cafés you might find in one of the narrow streets and alleyways? To get the best out of your time in Split, however, we recommend taking a tour with a local guide. Split is very well connected for flights, with an international airport a half hour drive away and is a popular stopping point for our guests on their way between Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar, Vis, or Korcula, all easily reached by a ferry from Split's port. If you base yourself in Split for a few days, you will find it is also perfect located for visits to some of Croatia's most stunning national parks.
