Chiara’s Venice

Published , by

Hey there! Welcome to Venice, not only my city but a place that’s so much more than just gondolas and gelato. I’m thrilled to share my favorite spots and hidden gems with you. This isn’t your usual tourist guide; it’s a glimpse into how I experience Venice every day!

Top 5 Alternative Things To See & Do in Venice

1. Scala Contarini del Bovolo

Ever stumbled upon a secret staircase? This spiral gem near Campo Manin is a quiet little spot with stunning views over the city. Skip the crowds at San Marco and come here for a peaceful panorama.

2. San Francesco della Vigna

Tucked away in the Castello district, this tranquil church feels worlds apart from the bustling streets. As a bonus, it’s filled with art by Bellini and Veronese, without the elbow-to-elbow crowds.

3. Libreria Acqua Alta

This place is pure magic for book lovers. Imagine gondolas stacked with books, cats lounging around, and a backdoor that opens right onto the canal. A must-visit for something quirky and fun.

4. Giudecca Island

Looking for some breathing room? Hop on a vaporetto to Giudecca for a leisurely stroll along the waterfront. The views of Venice’s skyline are unbeatable, and it’s blissfully less crowded.

5. Fondaco dei Tedeschi Rooftop Terrace

Want a killer view of the Grand Canal for free? The rooftop of this luxury shopping center is a hidden gem. Just book a slot online and soak in the scenery.

Local Food & Drinks

1. Cicchetti at All’Arco (San Polo)

Forget sit-down meals. Grab a spritz and some cicchetti (Venetian tapas) at this lively bacaro. Try the sarde in saor (sweet and sour sardines) or baccala mantecato (creamed cod). Trust me, they’re divine.

2. Risotto al Nero di Seppia at Antiche Carampane

If you love seafood, this squid ink risotto is rich, bold, and totally Venetian.

3. Spritz at Osteria al Squero

Sip a classic spritz while watching gondolas glide by.

4. Frittelle at Tonolo (Carnival season only)

These sweet, fluffy fritters (sometimes filled with cream or zabaglione) are the ultimate treat during Carnival.

Cozy and cool, this spot is perfect for a relaxed evening with live jazz in the Dorsoduro district.

3. Teatro La Fenice

Experience an opera or take a tour of this iconic theater. It’s grand and dramatic, just like Venice itself.
