Brno Sights

The Czech Republic's second city, Brno, has had a reputation for being dull. In fact, most Praguers think it's boring (a Czech movie called Boredom in Brno was released a few years back). But many simply haven't been to Brno to see for themselves how it has changed over the past few years. Brno is a university town. This is part of the reason for its renaissance, with tech companies moving in and providing well-paying jobs. Historically, Brno was an important town in the Austro-Hungarian empire. Locals called it "the Moravian Manchester" in reference to its industrial significance. Brno is located on the route between Prague and Vienna, close to the Moravian wine region. Its classical buildings attest to its significance during the Habsburg era. You'll also find outstanding examples of functionalist architecture. These include the UNESCO-listed Villa Tugendhat. You can find other buildings in the style in various parts of the city too. Spilberk Castle is another must-see.

Brno Tourism

Since 2017 Brno is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities network as a 'city of music'. This is evident from a rich cultural calendar in the city's many venues. Brno is also an excellent base for exploring Moravia. You'll find treats such as the wine region close to the border with Austria and the imposing castle at Vranov. The Moravian Karst has a cave system you can explore by underground river. Brno is worth a couple of nights on a longer trip. It's also a nice alternative to Vienna on the way between Prague and Budapest , if you've already toured Austria. Brno is a fantastic change of pace from the capitals. Indulge in the city's vibrant nightlife and check out the cafes, restaurants and bars. They're a huge hit with the locals and the New York Times, who listed Brno as one of their 52 Places to Go in 2016.

"Jay and the team responded promptly to my requests, with complete information. Their in-depth local knowledge, unique hotel choices, recommendations on things to do, tours, scheduling all added up to a great vacation."

The hotels were perfectly situated for access to the city centres. The additional excursions recommended were also great!"

Where to stay in Brno

Still developing as a tourist destination, there isn't a lot of choice in higher end hotels in Brno, but we've picked the very best to work with and can offer you a choice between well equipped centrally located apartments, one four star and one five star hotel, both right in the heart of the old town. Once we start preparing your customized itinerary we will present our recommended options for you to select from.

Things to do in Brno

Brno is the capital of Moravia and located in the middle of South Moravia, so it's ideally located for day trips to the south Moravian wine region as well the Moravian Karst. When we send you your customized itinerary you will be able to choose additional excursions to included in your vacation package or consider for adding later.

What I love about Brno...

“Until I had friends in Brno I thought the city was boring. Now I know it better and have come to appreciate it much more. Sometimes the touristy side of Prague and Vienna can be overwhelming. Brno is a balm to those feelings. The city has eclectic architecture, a vibrant coffee, cocktail and food scene and hidden depths (literally - there's a lot of 'underground' in Brno). A welcome change of pace and a must for a 'slow travel' tour of the region.”

10 Days Exploring the Czech Republic

Most travelers don't get beyond Prague but there's more to the Czech Republic than the capital. This 10 day tour itinerary will show you what many are missing. Of course there's Cesky Krumlov, medieval Bohemian gem, but you'll also visit rising star Brno, reliving its late-Habsburg era heyday on the back of a tech boom. Last stop is Karlovy Vary, an ornate spa town founded by Charles IV, the 'Greatest Czech' that ever lived. read full itinerary
