In early summer 2015 we hosted 4 sets of bloggers, mostly couples, in an apartment close to the center of Prague, arranging some things for them to do and making suggestions of events to attend. We made sure to take anyone who hadn’t been to Prague before on a private walking tour of the old town, Mala Strana and the castle area so they could get acquainted with the city first.
The bloggers were:
Jen Evans and Sean Boyle of Venturists, a married couple from Southern California, who decided to quit their jobs, sell all of their stuff, and travel around the world, full time.
Cedric Lizotte of Continents & Condiments, a a freelance journalist, blogger and photographer who lives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Toccara and Sam Best of Forget SomeDay, a travel blogging couple, currently on a year-long adventure around the world. They hope to inspire you to “forget someday” and explore this beautiful world today.
Cheryl MacDonald and Lisa Chavis of What Boundaries Travel left executive level careers and have been traveling the world since 2007. Their goal is to travel the world and inspire others to “Live Your Dream!”
Jen and Sean / Venturists.net
Jen and Sean were the first bloggers we hosted and they spent two weeks in Prague in the second half of May. Jen’s more into wine than beer and if you’re like her you’ll appreciate her Wine drinker’s survival guide to Prague. Learn how to buy wine from the barrel at one of Prague’s classic vinarnas, and read about their visit to a wine spa located in Casa Marcello, one of our partner hotels. Continuing the wine theme, we took them for a day trip to Melnik, a small town that lies at the confluence of the Labe and Vltava (Elbe and Moldau in German) rivers and where the grapes vine-covered hillsides get turned into wine for the chateau. May is a great time for festivals in Prague and they attended a fair few of them, including the Czech Beer Festival, a cheesecake festival and a Vietnamese food and culture festival (you knew Prague has a large Vietnamese majority right? No? It was news to Jen and Sean too). They also found the time to attend a fun evening making fresh pasta with locals yet still found time to do all the research required to pen this essential guide to the Nine things you must eat and drink in Prague.
Cedric / Continents & Condiments
Cedric had a fun-filled couple of weeks in Prague in early June, reconnecting with a city he’d lived in 10 years ago and discovering what had changed. You can get a taste for the places he checked out in a series of blog posts and videos, the first of which is about Anonymous Bar, a trendy Prague cocktail joint. Cedric tried a more typical local beverage at Unetice Brewery and dined at a couple of our favorite spots, V Zatisi and Café Imperial. That passage of time between visits also inspired him to write about how the city’s culinary landscape has been transformed in the intervening years, in a piece for the Huffington Post, titled 48 Hours In Prague: Czech Foodies Wake Up From Their Slumber.
Toccara and Sam / Forget Someday
With just a week in Prague in mid June, due to a busy summer in Europe, we’re amazed with how much they covered, with our assistance of course. To welcome Toccara and Sam to the city, on their first full day we took them on a custom food tour of the Karlín neighborhood they were staying in. Their other posts about Prague covered many more aspects of the city, starting off with 6 Spots for stellar views, the required-reading First Timer’s Guide to Drinking Beer in Prague, as well as a few suggestions for those who prefer their beverages to be more warm and chocolate-based. Spring and early Summer really is festival season in Prague so it’s no surprise that Toccara and Sam happened on quite a few festivals along the river on the one weekend they had in the city.
Cheryl and Lisa / What Boundaries Travel
Cheryl and Lisa’s sojourn in Prague was also limited to just a week but we had time to take them on a private day trip to Kutna Hora, location of the (in)famous bone church and they also got to check out one of Prague’s many beer spas. In their gust post for our blog they tell the story of Alchemy in Prague, which you can learn about for yourself at one of the city’s two alchemy museums.
Charlie is head of marketing at JayWay Travel. A long-term Prague resident, his interests are cooking, eating out, cycling, skiing and of course, travel.
I spent a few weeks road tripping throughout Bohemia (including Prague) and Moravia a few months ago…such a fantastic country.
