Ohrid

A historic lakeside retreat. Boating, swimming, and historic architecture, all on the shores of Lake Ohrid.

A serene city on a beautiful lake, Ohrid combines ample history, scenery, and outdoor activities, which helped it attain UNESCO World Heritage status. The Old Town is set on a hill with a wealth of sites to explore, from monasteries to an ancient Greek amphitheater, and an imposing fortress. Since the city is right on Lake Ohrid, everywhere you go you’ll have breathtaking views of the water and all the surrounding natural beauty. One of the most incredible things to see is the view of the Old Town jutting out into the lake, especially when lit up at night, an image summing up the lake region's unique charm. If you’re visiting in the summer, you’ll find a rich cultural atmosphere, with many concerts and outdoor events.

Route for Ohrid tour

The lake gives the region its unique charm and also offers many excellent outdoor activities. It’s the perfect place to take a dip, kick back, and relax at one of the beachfront bars, or even climb aboard a boat. The water is very clean and is consistently warm, since it’s fed by hot springs spread across the lake. One of the activities our guests love best here is a trip to the St. Naum monastery at the other end of the lake. But that’s just one of the boating options that will give you a chance to enjoy the lake from the center of it, and to get a new point of view on the city. Ohrid is reasonably priced, so you can really live it up while you’re here. The city remains relatively untouched, but it does seem poised at the edge of a tourist boom. See it before the crowds do.

What we love about Ohrid

Lidija

Trip Planner

Ohrid is like a fairy tale setting, a small town on the shore of the most beautiful lake in this part of the world. But what really struck me in Ohrid was the unparalleled warmth and hospitality of the locals, as well as the most amazing fresh food and even more amazing local wine.

Antonia

Adriatic Team Leader

Aside from Ohrid being truly beautiful and vivid, I found there, and liked the most, the calm vibe this town offers. There is a lot to see and do, but even if you do nothing, just enjoying views over the lake while maybe sipping some of the excellent Macedonian wine, this place makes you relaxed, charges your batteries and makes you wish to stay longer.

Josipa

France, Benelux & Switzerland Team Leader

My first impression of Ohrid is related to beautiful lake scenery that was somewhat mystical. I will never forget the view from my hotel room overlooking the spacious lake that seemed as frozen in time. The feel of serenity was constant while in Ohrid and local people are very relaxed and warm. I liked the combination of strong historical background and natural beauty of the area and I strongly believe I wasn't in Ohrid for the last time.
