Vilnius is lesser known than its Baltic counterparts Tallinn and Riga. But the city astounds visitors. Of course there's the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Baroque Old Town. But once entering the narrow streets of Vilnius you'll discover a variety of building styles. There's Gothic through Renaissance to Classicism. You can also see a little Modernism thrown in for good measure. The Old Town of Vilnius is big. It's one of the largest surviving old town complexes in Northern Europe. But there's more than buildings to marvel at. Vilnius has a thriving cultural, restaurant and bar scene. We recommend a Vilnius walking tour to get acquainted.
Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox and Jewish religions are all represented in Vilnius. The most impressive place of worship is Vilnius Cathedral and its bell tower. The rebuilt Royal Palace of Lithuania is worth a stop too. Shoppers will enjoy the markets and antique shops of Vilnius. Classical music fans will have plenty to enjoy in Lithuania's capital. And, Vilnius is one of the only cities that allows hot air balloons directly over the city center. It's the perfect way to get another perspective on the impressive Old Town. On the other side of the river is the artsy Uzupis neighborhood. A tongue-in-cheek self-declared republic with its own constitution. One of the articles: "Everyone has the right to die, but it is not a duty."

"Absolutely first-rate experience. A special shout-out to our in-country liaison, Darja, who was outstanding in all ways, even calling us mid-trip to make certain that everything was well. Just a delight. Keep up the great work. Hope to travel with you again in the not-too-distant future."

The Old Town of Vilnius is easily explored on foot and the best way to learn about it is a private walking tour but if you'd prefer to move at a quicker pace, a tour with a private driver can be arranged. The must-see sight outside of Vilnius is definitely Trakai, a photogenic red-bricked castle on an island in the middle of a lake. For an unusual view of it we can even arrange a hot air balloon flight. When we send you your customized itinerary you will be able to choose additional excursions to included in your vacation package or consider for adding later.
What I love about Vilnius...
“I love staying in the old town part of Vilnius, a beautifully restored setting for a stay of a few days. But don't miss visting Uzupis, the self-declared bohemian republic. I've packed our dining recommendations with a little bit of everything, from street food to fine dining. The big surprise for me was modern Lithuanian cuisine. It's not all calorie-bomb zepellins you know!”
