Zadar Sights

Zadar might lack the big name glitz of Dalmatian coastal neighbor Split. But this bustling university city's historic Old Town, located on a 400-by-1,000-meter peninsula, dates back to Roman times. The central Forum and original city gates set the tone. The marbled limestone of Zadar's main street, Kalelarga, echoes Dubrovik's Stradun too. But Zadar is very much its own city. You can see this in such urban art pieces as the water-powered sea organs and the bewitching Greeting to the Sun. When in Zadar, be sure to find a vantage point along the waterfront to admire what Hitchcock considered "the most beautiful sunset in the world, more beautiful than the one in Key West, in Florida, applauded at every evening."

Zadar Tourism

In addition to exploring the historic sights of Zadar's Old Town, there's plenty to do in the region. The Plitvice, Krka, Paklenica and Kornati Islands National Parks are all within easy reach for day trips. You could go with an organized group, a private guide or on your own by rental car. Want to spend a little time on the beach in Zadar? There are several sandy beaches in the area, including the Nin lagoon. This is regarded as the most beautiful beach in Croatia. Zadar is one of our favorite cities in Croatia. It's the perfect place for a vacation, especially in between stops at cities like Dubrovnik, Plitvice and Zagreb.

"JayWay allowed us to have our self-guided vacation with just the right amount of support. We could use the resources at our disposal as much or as little as we wanted. JayWay is a finely tuned machine."

"We had wonderful experiences with every single lodging, which is very unusual. The services you arranged all went very smoothly. Everyone we met was very welcoming. Croatia is a beautiful, interesting, historic country. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and all the discoveries along the way."

Where to stay in Zadar

Most of the accommodation we offer in Zadar is located in the heart of Old Town, on the peninsula, with a comprehensive selection of hotels, B&Bs and apartments. If you'd prefer to be away from the Old Town, perhaps if you have rented a car, then we have some options that are a little out of the Old Town but offer free parking and have other advantages too, such as proximity to the beach. Once we start preparing your customized itinerary we will present our recommended options for you to select from.

Things to do in Zadar

Zadar is well located for day tripping to several of Croatia's most famous National Parks, such as Plitvice, Krka, Paklenica or the Kornati Islands. We can arrange places on a group trip, a private guide or if you prefer you can go it alone by rental car. When we send you your customized itinerary you will be able to choose additional excursions to included in your vacation package or consider for adding later.

What I love about Zadar...

“To be honest, I always manage to get lost in Zadar, and I love it! Wandering the streets you can always expect a surprise when turning a corner - a small shop with local handicrafts, home made sweets, a great bar or artistic cafe. But no matter how lost you get, at the end you'll find yourself sitting near the sea, at the most beutiful sunset in Dalmatia, listening to the song of waves on the sea organ. If you're looking for some romance, Zadar is the place to find it. ”
