Skopje

Skopje travel packages

A vibrant city where the past comes alive.

The birthplace of Mother Teresa, Skopje is a city that reveres its past. You’ll find numerous landmarks and tributes to Mother Teresa here. But the statues in Skopje aren’t like those you’ve seen elsewhere. Several years ago, the government built monuments to many local historical figures. As a result, Skopje is like a living museum where the region’s culture and history come alive before your eyes. Skopje's atmosphere is unique, combining a little of the energy of Las Vegas with Eastern European charm. It’s really like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Some of the decorations are a little over the top, but the city is a must for visitors to the region. As you explore the sights you should try the excellent local wine and food, which combines flavors from Balkan and Greek cuisines. We recommend a walking tour in Skopje, and don't forget to visit the bazaar!

Skopje’s Old Town is for pedestrians only, so its traditional atmosphere remains. This is the best place to explore the Ottoman influence on the region. The city center features various bazaars and cozy alleyways. You’ll definitely feel like you’ve stepped back into a more traditional age. This contrasts with the modern monuments throughout Skopje. But the city isn’t all there is to explore. The fortress on the hill is impressive and well worth the hike. About 20 minutes outside of Skopje you’ll find the Matka Canyon. It offers spectacular outdoor activities including boating, kayaking and hiking. For another point of view on Skopje, take the cable car up to the famous cross that overlooks the city. Skopje is an ever-changing and exciting destination. It always offers visitors something new and never disappoints.

What I love about Skopje

Skopje is a place to indulge in restaurants and shopping, and, by all means, do not hesitate to try everything local you come by! Also, this is a city with the biggest monuments in the Balkans, huge statues and pillars... and rightly so, this is after all the homeland of Alexander the Great, they say.

Where to stay in Skopje

We've personally inspected all the city center hotels and have arrived at a small selection that covers all budgets and preferences. Stay in the thick of things in the downtown center or opt for a five star resort above the old bazaar area. Once we start preparing your customized itinerary we will present our recommended options for you to select from.
Modern Design Hotel
This hotel is in the perfect location. Not the most spacious, the rooms are nevertheless simple and comfortable.
Luxury Spa Hotel
A lovely five-star hotel complete with a spa and gym, this resort puts you right in the heart of Old Town, near the Bazaar.
Small Design B&B
Several of the rooms in this lovely bed and breakfast have a great view onto the main square. All of them are quaint and comfortable.

Things to do in Skopje

As well as taking a walking tour of the city which will teach you as much about Macedonian life and culture as it will about the city itself, there's also a lot of countryside around Skopje and several national parks too. Skopje is also conveniently located for a day trip to Kosovo. When we send you your customized itinerary you will be able to choose additional excursions to include in your vacation package or consider adding later.

Albania and Macedonia were exotic and fascinating and the people were very welcoming to me. Without the localized staff to assist me I do not think this trip would have been so satisfying. I highly endorse all services.
