There’s more than enough to keep you entertained on Lake Como, whether you’re looking to rub elbows with the stars, explore the history, or just enjoy some relaxation. The town of Como is a great place to start, with its charming historic center. We recommend taking the funicular up the hill to Brunate, a quaint village with extraordinary views over the lake. And, since silk making is one of the most traditional trades on Lake Como, the Educational Silk Museum is definitely worth a visit. Lake Como is known for its splendid villas, which are owned by prominent local families and international stars. You’ll recognize some of the buildings and the scenery from films like Ocean’s Twelve. You can take ferries - or rent a private boat - to explore these beautiful examples of architecture all along the lake. Alternatively, you can explore the lake's treasures on a private driving tour from Como. What are prices like in Como?

A quick lunch with a drink in the center, is around 30 euros. Museums and landmarks generally cost 10-20 euros. For a full dinner, budget at least 40-50 euros. 

How can I get around Como?

Como's compact center is easily explored by foot. If you're staying in another town, or would like to explore other areas along the lake, we recommend taking ferries, which are certainly the most scenic and memorable way to get around. A ticket costs 3-13 EUR, depending on the length of your journey, but there are also day passes ranging from 9-28 EUR. There are also taxis of course, whose prices depend on both distance and the time of day.

Is Como safe?

Como is very safe, but pickpocketing is possible in crowded, touristy areas.

What options does Como have for people with dietary restrictions?

Como has increasingly more options for people with dietary restrictions and intolerances. Many pizza places offer gluten-free pizzas (such as Ristorante Pizzeria Exclusive); you can also find many vegetarian options in most restaurants.

How long should I stay in Como?

We suggest spending at least two full days in Como, in order to not just visit Como itself, but other towns along the lake. Consider adding a third day, for a day trip to another place a bit further away, such as Switzerland.
