4 Nights in Tbilisi

Cosmopolitan Tbilisi can be hard to place, with its combination of Byzantine churches, Soviet modernism, and Art Nouveau. There are even Turkish baths that harness the sulfurous waters that flow from hot springs and down a waterfall. Newfound prosperity has brought stunning new hotels, showy new parks, cable cars, and a monumental cathedral, but the Old Town’s charms remain untouched, save for the occasional paint touch up. The oldest district, which lies beneath a massive fortress, has its own unique form of architecture, with colorful wooden homes featuring large, carved balconies.

Day 1

Day 1 - Arrival in Tbilisi

When you arrive, we'll have a driver waiting to greet you. You'll be taken to your accommodation in Tbilisi, the Georgian capital.

Our representative will then meet with you to answer any questions you have and to get you settled for the rest of your trip.

Visit Funicular Restaurant

Suggestion to explore on your own

For your first night, we recommend taking a funicular up to, yes, Funicular Restaurant. There you can enjoy one of the city's best panoramic views. This excellent restaurant is located in a Soviet building that has been recently renovated, at the entrance to the Mtatsminda Amusement Park (which you can stroll around for free). The funicular itself dates back more than 100 years, but has fortunately likewise been renovated. Grab “Lagidze Waters” (a popular natural lemonade), and a "ponchik" filled donut, and take in the city from above.

Day 2

Day 2 - Your First Full Day in Tbilisi

Day 3 - Your Second Full Day in Tbilisi

Kartli Private Wine Tour

Kartli Private Wine Tour

Included in your vacation package price.

Enjoy an entertaining, educational, and delicious day break from the capital! You’ll start the tour at the area's famous pagan site, the cave town of Uplistsikhe. Inhabited for over 3,000 years, this place has long been known for its wine. Here you'll visit an ancient wine cellar next to the palace where the beloved Queen Tamar (still the most popular namesake for women) was crowned, in the 12th century. After the historical sightseeing, you'll move on to an active cellar outside of town. A freshly prepared lunch, paired with local wine will make you understand why the royal court chose this region as its main wine supplier for centuries! Once your stomach is satisfied, another winery awaits. After sampling a set of tender, floral organic wines, you'll definitely fall in love with the area. Your day will come to a memorable end as you watch the sunset from the Jvari Monastery. This serene hilltop view of the confluence of two rivers will stay in your memories for days to come!

Activity Level : Light
Duration : 9 hours

Experience the Aerial Tramway

Suggestion to explore on your own

A cable car connects Rike Park on the left bank of the Mtkvari river with Narikala Fortress. Here you'll have fantastic 360-degree views of the city from the large windows of the car, plus an easy ride to the top of the hill. The ride only takes a couple of minutes. When you get out at the hill-top station turn right to the huge aluminium Kartlis Deda (Mother of Georgia) statue, or left to the Narikala Fortress.

Day 4

Day 4 - Your Third Full Day in Tbilisi

Kazbegi Private Day Trip

Kazbegi Private Day Trip

Included in your vacation package price.

You'll have the chance to explore Georgia’s Great Caucasus Range on this private full-day Kazbegi tour from Tbilisi. Visit the 16th-century Ananuri Fortress with a private guide, and enjoy amazing views over the Aragvi River from the turreted stone walls. Then you'll travel through the pretty resort of Gudauri to the Gergeti Trinity Church — nestled beneath the soaring summit of Mount Kazbek and widely considered the region’s top attraction. Capture fine countryside views on camera as you pass through the Dariali Gorge, and learn of the route’s importance for travellers across the Caucasus over the centuries. These mountains are some of the most dramatic in the country, and you'll enjoy seeing them.

Activity Level : Moderate
Duration : 9 hours

Bathe with the Locals

Suggestion to explore on your own

The ancient Abanotubani District sits below the imposing fortress; the brick, domed rooftops of the baths bubble up like spring water. This is the most historic part of the city, as according to legend, it was the sulphur springs that enticed King Vakhtang Georgasali to settle the land and declare it the new capital city in the 5th century AD. There were once more than 60 bathhouses in Tbilisi where people could get squeaky clean or stay for a soak, letting the curative sulphur water ease their ailments. Fast-forward to today: there are five surviving bathhouses in the Abanotubani District where locals and travelers can experience a sulphur bath.

2 Nights in Sighnaghi

Located in the heart of Georgia's main wine-growing region, hilltop Sighnaghi offers impressive views of the Alazani Valley, with the Caucasus Mountains visible in the distance. Founded as a shelter against marauders, Sighnaghi’s city walls cover a vast area, much of which is wilderness. The town's center is picturesque and romantic, with its vistas and quaint streets. Signaghi's 18th and 19th century homes have been carefully maintained, and their colorful, almost Italianate style bring to mind Tuscan hill towns. Sighnaghi is such a popular wedding venue, that it even features a 24-hour wedding chapel, which also caters to tourists. Fortunately, the law was amended so that foreigners can divorce without having to return to Georgia!

Wine Tasting at Pheasant's Tears Winery

Suggestion to explore on your own

Pheasant's Tears Winery is the perfect place to taste some Georgian wine and food! It's located in Sighnaghi, the "Town of Love,” and produces artisanal wines aged in Qvevri, according to ancient Georgian traditions. Pheasant’s tears was founded in 2007 by John Wurdeman, an American painter that moved to the Georgian town of Sighnaghi to follow his two passions — wine and art — and Georgian winemaker and farmer Gela Patalishvili. The name "Pheasant’s Tears" is connected to a Georgian tale in which only the very best wines are good enough to make a pheasant cry for joy.

Delve into the Soviet occupation of Georgia by visiting the Museum of Soviet Occupation, based on similar institutions in Tallinn and Riga. There, a permanent exhibition details Soviet rule in Georgia, from 1921-1991, as well as the efforts of resistance movements, and the many victims of Soviet repression. Here, you can find secret police files on public figures seen as subversive and often shot or deported, and other artifacts demonstrating Soviet repression.

Famed for its fortified tower houses (some of which date back over 1,000 years), Mestia is home to both the Svan people (who speak their own dialect of Georgian) and some of the country's most dramatic vistas. A small town, Mestia is the regional hub, thanks in part to its stunning new airport and road. Despite the town's deep history (some of its churches have been standing for over a millennium), and status as regional capital (be sure to visit the ethnographic museum to explore the unique Svan culture) the surrounding beauty is the main attraction.
